The 05962RU 11.6-Inch LED Notebook - Matte Black Deals 2012

I connected a working external drive to the left usb port. Computer instantly shutdown and is apparently dead. Amazon's policy says I'm stuck dealing with Lenovo on this and the reviews for Lenovo's customer service are about as bad as it can get. I'm going to contact Amazon in the morning and see if there is any way they will replace it. (Edit-The next morning I removed the battery and reattached it and the unit started up, with the warning that windows had shut down unexpectedly. It's working fine now and I'm loving it again. I'm going to plug the suspect usb port with something so I don't accidentally use it. The other 2 are fine.) I unboxed it about 30 hours ago and I was liking it quite a bit. Screen was OK. Played an episode of the Daily Show over wifi with me pausing and restarting often and everything behaved. Touchpad was a little strange in that sometimes it would respond to 2 finger multi-touch scrolling and sometimes not but it could have been something I was doing or not familiar with.(Edit-Multi-touch scrolling is getting better or I'm learning what it likes) Not much in the way of bloatware. I-tunes installed quicker than I expected. Didn't get a chance to try the camera.(Edit-Camera is OK, internal speakers are good enough for voice and video playback. Microphone is sensitive enough, it's the small hole just below the Ctrl key, try not to cover it when you are speaking.) Keyboard feels good and is just big enough. A very nice, small, quick little unit. Cheap without feeling cheap. I'm going to upgrade the ram to 4GB and see if I can switch out the drive for an SSD. I plan on dual booting Ubuntu and Winows 7. This netbook is amazing. I wanted a computer that I could easily fit in my backpack for my college classes, would last all day on battery, and be powerful enough to actually use. I've tried a few different netbooks at the local Bestbuy, and was very surprised at how awfully slow they were. I opened up internet explorer then tried to type in a word document and it was nearly too slow. This thinkpad, on the other hand, has handled everything I've tried on it. I frequently multitask on it without a problem, sometimes having open Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Visual 2010, and a few word documents at once without it lagging. I also have a few small games on it, and I like to play some N64 games on it with an emulator. The N64 games sometimes skip a little during cut scenes but for the most part they run pretty well on it. Another thing that I read in most of the comments on here was about the keyboard. It really is a great keyboard. The keys are bouncy and just perfect. Also the mouse pad works very well. I never hook up a mouse to it I just use the pad. Speakers aren't great, but you can't really expect them to on a netbook. This isn't an issue for me at all because I don't use this for music. The size of the netbook is wonderful. It is very thin and light and I fit it in the small pocket on my backpack. It is a little bigger than most netbooks, though. Most have about 10 inch screens, this has 12 inches, which I find to be perfect. The battery gets me through 5 50 minute classes and generally has an hour to an hour and a half of battery at the end of the day. My only real complaint about this is the finish. It doesn't show fingerprints, but it shows grease. If you touch it at all, it will just look greasy and disgusting. If you want it to look nice you will have to regularly wipe it off with a cloth, or just wash your hands before using it. Other than that, it's great. True it is about twice as expensive as most netbooks, but it is in a different league than them in my opinion. You get what you pay for, and nothing about this computer seems cheap to me. Very worth the money.
