Lawnmower Worx customer service great on 2012

While looking for an electric mower for my relatively small (1/6th acre) lot, I noticed that Worx is apparently going to supplement or replace this 14" model with an updated 15" model at a modest price increase. After finishing my research, I decided to go ahead and purchase this model with the following reasoning:

1. I wanted a small mower that I could maneuver easily and move to the basement for storage for the winter with minimum fuss. The new 15" mower is bigger and about 33% heavier (40 vs 30 pounds, still fairly light!). The 15" mower does appear to have a nicer more collapsible handle, but during mowing season I wouldn't use that feature in the garage much, and the space savings is not relevant in the basement.

2. The new mower appears to have one-touch height adjustment, and a slightly broader range of heights. Not significant to me as it takes me about 30 seconds to adjust the four wheels on the 14" mower.

I have no idea whether this 14" model is really going to be supplanted by the 15" model, but thought I'd give folks the heads up if anybody would prefer the smaller mower.

I should also comment on my experience with the 14" mower. I have grown increasingly frustrated with my reel mower, which works great at the beginning of the spring/summer but becomes progressively less effective as the grass grows thicker. I found myself going over the lawn several times and relying on my string trimmer to mow some of the areas with taller grass. The 14" electric mower handled my entire front and back lawn with ease, even under tough conditions (grass was damp from recent rain and the morning dew). The mower is quiet (far less noisy than my electric string trimmer) and mowed most of the lawn with a single pass. I did go over a few overgrown patches twice to get some stray shrubbery, but no big deal. The mower is easy to handle and has a very nice safety switch that is comforting as I know my young children will not be able to figure out how to turn it on anytime soon. Being able to charge the battery either directly in the mower or separately is a nice touch as well.

In summary, I highly recommend this mower as long as you are aware of its limitations. It is a huge step up from a reel mower, and arguably not too much less environmentally-friendly. This lawnmower claims to mow 6000 sq feet of lawn. Our lawn is only 3000sq ft and it only seemed to cut about 1/2 before that battery died. We tried it a few times and it would always die fairly quickly. If we ever hit a longer or tough patch of grass it did not seem to have enough power to get through it.

We had ordered it from toolbarn.com. We tried calling them within the 30 day return period. They said that they would take it back, but we'd have to pay for shipping - which is alot on a lawnmower! I told them we couldn't afford that and they told me I'd have to contact Worx directly.

I contacted them and the first time they gave offered me to repair shops that would fix whatever the problem was for free. Neither was open when I was not working so I called a second time. I was told they would send a new battery, which never came. I called a third time and got a great rep on the line. I told him my story and after a few minutes on hold, he agreed to send me a brand new mower of the next model up - the 15" mower that is supposed to do 7500sq feet, which is a more expensive model, free of charge and include shipping labels to send this one back. It arrived promptly and we are much happier with it. It does our whole lawn with no problem, although as I said it is only about 3000 sq ft, so I don't know what it's limit is. I had surgury right after receiving it and it took me a month to send the old one back and they did not even bother me about it.
