Pros: Price is reasonable for what you get. I paid $110 on Amazon, including free shipping.
I bought this system for my son's 8th birthday so he could practice at home. He is a beginner and this backboard suits him well. I don't think he would have known the difference if I had bought him a more expensive one. I chose this one based on the number of good reviews. It seemed like other decent backboards were much more expensive.
The pole is medium gauge steel and appears fairly sturdy.
Customer service was helpful. It did take 20 minutes or so to speak with someone, but they were pleasant and knowledgeable and solved my problem right away.

Cons: My biggest complaint is the assembly instructions. At first they appeared well-written and thorough, but as I dived into the project, I realized there was much left to be desired. The hardware comes in several separate bags. Sometimes an assembly step used all the parts in one bag. Sometimes it used parts from multiple bags. Also, the diagrams of parts at times did not match the part very well, the instructions didn't make sense, and I was left to plain old trial and error. The nomenclature used to ID the parts was also confusing, as it consists of 3-letter codes. Some labeling of the parts and more clearly written instructions would have saved a lot of headache. I managed to assemble the set by myself in about an hour and a half.
The plastic base and backboard are lightweight and I'm curious to see how they will hold up.
There are two options for filling the base: sand and water. I'm not sure why anyone would want to use the sand option (319lbs of sand, which you must use a funnel to load into the base). Water worked just fine.

As far as entry-level, portable basketball goals go, and for the money, this is a good value that most children and adults will enjoy. Ordered this from Wal-Mart; the assembly was hard (especially since I am not a do-it-yourself person) and probably took a total of more than 3 hours, with my wife helping in the last steps. It was a great satisfaction when it was all done (and our 7-year old boy loved it), but we realized that I had left out a piece of hardware (item PE) that goes between the back board and the pole. I didn't see this piece pictured at the top of the page containing the rim assembly step so I assumed it was not needed in that step. The picture of the assembly step itself does show this piece (in the exploded view) but unfortunately I overlooked it. Even without it the structure felt sturdy and strong so I didn't bother to dismantle and reassemble. I filled the base completely with water. Today we had high winds in the area (40-50 mph gusts)and the whole thing tipped over, but nothing broke! I lifted it back up and so far so good.
