What I love about Kreg is the quality tools

In words of Kreg themselves (see youTube video advertising an older system from 2007): "It is the small details that often make a great difference." This review is two stars to highlight the major difference in which this KIT does not measure up to the previous systems: STORAGE. In the old video you can see nice and tight compartments for each individual part, including the drill bit (you can additionally to storing the bit ALSO adjust the depth of the bore on the scale in the storage compartment). Nothing of this "small details often make great difference" attitude and approach survive into the re-designed box for the kit. You just throw all your stuff in an start praying it fits and does not get neutered. It does not fit: the clamp must stay out. Or the box [I retained to factory packaging paper box for its softness to keep all the tidbits in] would not fit in after you put in the assembled clamp/wise gig and the face clamp together. It gets neutered: the free flowing bits go out of sharp.

For me this makes for a great difference: I WAS BUYING A KIT, an integrated whole, not a random set of bits. At this price I expected a great well thought out quality set [as used to be the case in the past]. I was buying a top of the line set, not a Kreg Mini. [Possibly Kreg Mini may be all you would ever need..., just a little more inconvenience in adjusting and clamping to one pocket hole gig, and of course, no box.]

As one previous reviewer points out, the botched box also makes for diminishing functionality of the whole set: your drill bit gets abused if thrown in the box grinding against all other bits and screws, clamps and what have you there (I kept the factory paper wrap: not an ideal solution).

As far as the functionality of the set itself is concerned I would agree with much more positive reviews and give it FOUR stars. (I would like to see two separate adjusting margins of the older set - allows for more variability in positioning of the gig - but I do not know what the "cost" in terms of possible increased fragility was. The current design is more "sturdy" but less nimble and adjustable, it seems to me.)

So far I connected together just one face frame and need some practice to get all of it right (I mean, really, both "straight" and "right"). Where other reviews comment on exceptional strength of the new joint I am not so impressed. I expected more. Even the longest (at the time of my purchase available at Lowes) special kreg screws - 2 inches long - seemed inadequate to the task of connecting 6x2 at the angle with 4x2, not from the face but from inside and outside edges. I needed LONG and coarse screws. When adding one face screws my joint went out of alignment unless the opposite face was also screwed up.. indeed. [But this is just me, consider this candid admission to my lack of skills.]
