Wonderful basketball hoop on 2012

My daughter wanted a basketball hoop for her 10th birthday so we wanted a portable hoop that would work for our small backyard patio. The price and reviews were right on this one and with Amazon Prime shipping I had it fast.

Assembly really needs two people. I managed to get it done by myself, but could have used help in a few spots. The worst part was the pole assembly. The directions said the label should face front, but the label on my pole was to the side so I guessed as to which way to install the bolts. Of course, I guessed wrong and so I had to start over once I got to the backboard steps and realized my mistake. We live in Florida, so I just used water in the base since we don't (normally!) need to worry about freezing temperatures. The instructions call for 320lbs of sand, so keep that in find if you're going that route!

Adjusting the height is a bit tough since technically, according to the instructions, you should tip the whole thing forward, adjust the pole height, and put it back up. I haven't had to do this yet and don't plan on doing it too often so not having a crank or easier adjustment isn't a big deal. Also, since the backboard is flush with the pole (not extended away from it) more often than not after you make a basket the ball will hit the base and go rolling away in a different direction. Again, not a big deal.

For the price, I am happy with the quality of the hoop and my daughter loves going out back to play with it. I'm not very good at using tools and telling you what everything is called, but we got it all together with a little extra boost from my dad's knowledge. The instructions are incrediblly thorough. They don't leave anything out and the parts are packaged, labeled, and seperated really really well. Follow along with the paper and you'll have absolutely no problem. It does take more than one hand for at least the backboard part at the end though. You have to hold the backboard and rim together with the top of the pole/bracket and put it all together at once. I can't imagine one person doing that all by themselves unless they're an octopus lol. The system went together very well and looks great. I agree with one of the other reviews I read... if you want one that you need to adjust very often, you may one to pick another one. That was the hardest part of it all. I wish I would have had a man around for that one. My dad is too bad in health to help out with things like that.

Tip: I made a mistake of getting sand loose that was kept outside from a local business, but since it is kept outside, it is wet. I did this because it was a lot cheaper than other places bagged. The wet sand isn't going to go in the hole very well though. It would take us forever to get it all in. We need to buy play/dry sand so it will funnel easy. I don't want to use antifreeze with water.. it worries me too much with our animals and the kids.

Note: I ordered this from Amazon thinking it would ship straight to my house since I don't have a truck to pick it up. It fit in the car with the back seat flat perfectly though and wasn't too heavy and I had to go to the post office to pick it up anyway since it came by USPS. It took a while to get here since it came from California and I'm in West Virginia. I got it though. Amazon is always great! My favorite place to shop!
