Easy Accurate Measurements For 2012

All the test measurements that I have taken match the tape measure exactly.
A few tips would be:
1. Always check the "reference point", button 9 on lower left of keyboard to make sure you are measuring from the end that you want.
2. The first time you touch button 5, the laser button, you are only turning the laser on, not making a measurement. The second time you touch it, the measurement is then made.
3. All area and volume measurements are a sequence of measurements. For example to measure area, click button 5 to turn the laser part on, then click button 5 again when you have aligned from your starting point to the length measurement, then realign and click again for the width measurement.
4. All measurements are ultimately linear. For example, if you want to measure the area of a book, then place the measuring device at the bottom of the book and something like a ruler at the top to act as a target to capture the laser to obtain the length measurement, then reverse to the opposite side to capture the width measurement. I use this professionally to measure building dimensions. Works GREAT INDOORS. Is often VERY DIFFICULT to see the red laser OUTDOORS. I recommend getting laser enhancement glasses to help, such as DEWALT DW0714 Laser Enhancement Glasses. Still, it can be difficult to see the laser outside on a sunny day against a brick building.

Real-world Distance maximum is between 120'-130'; always reads up to and just over 120', have never reached 130' successfully.

Battery life is great. I've used for over six months on the original batteries.

The unit has a few one-touch buttons to add convenience to the operation. The best is the one that shifts measurement between the front AND rear of the unit, reflecting how you've positioned the device at the originating point of the measurement vector. Second is the button that shifts between Feet & Inches and Feet in decimal measurement (60'-4" vs 60.33 ft); also metric in decimal meters. I rarely use the buttons to calculate AREA and VOLUME as buildings are rarely perfect rectangles.

Compared to other laser measures, this unit is small and easily worn on a belt with the included holster that has a Velcro loop so that you are not required to undo your belt to attach; just undo the Velcro loop, thread behind your belt and then fasten the loop closed.
