I had always bought the little rinky dink electric razors and was never satisfied with their performance. When I started shaving my head daily, I decided to get a nice electric razor. I was afraid of spending so much money for something I might not want once I get it. This model was highly regarded and once I got it, I saw why.
With a little dab of 'shave secret' lotion, this razor will give you a smooth shave with no problems. It works good with shaving cream too, but the shave secret lotion seems to 'hold' the blades to the surface with ease and get it extra close. Shaving your head with it really wears out the blades and foil a lot more than average because your actually pressing against skeletal bone rather than just a cheek or neck. I have had it over a year now and it still shaves close and performance is great.
When I was cleaning it recently, I did decide to take the blades off and clean around in there a bit with a Q-tip. Well, the blades came off and on easily. When I originally read how to do it in the instructions, I dreaded to ever have to do any of that. Well, it's not too bad. I'm really impressed with this model and would highly recommend.
I bought this shaver after my Braun 54xx failed to hold a charge, and the power switch almost didn't work anymore. Having read several reviews and finding it at Amazon for the best price, I must say this is the best shaver I've ever used.
It shaves fast, clean, and holds a charge much longer than my old Braun, plus it only takes about an hour to fully charge. Its ergonomics are excellent and it fits in hand quite nicely. The slide switch on the side of the razor allows you to let the head pivot for flexing around your face, or it locks the head in a fixed position. I find the unlocked position gives me the best shaves, and the wide head gives you a lot of beard real estate to mow down with one pass. Using my old Braun was like holding a small brick and was very uncomfortable to use, even though it gave a good shave. Noise levels are on par with my old shaver and should be fine for all but the most sensitive ears. It can also be used in the shower, though I prefer shaving after, so I can't comment on its wet performance.
The trimmer is excellent as well, and is easy to use. Replacement blades are a very inexpensive $17 considering they only have to be changed every two years. The foil is more expensive at $22, which Panasonic suggests you change every 12 months. But you can save some money and get the combo pack for $28 which includes one set of blades and one foil. After six months of use, my Panasonic is still shaving like I just took it out of the box, so I would definitely rate this a strong 5 stars.
There are a couple of things to be aware of however. First, don't believe the number of uses the shaver literature suggests unless all you grow is peach fuzz for a beard. I get a full seven shaves though, and there is no noticeable change in the rpms, even down to 20% charge. And be aware that Panasonic does not make replacement cords, so if you lose yours packing for a trip you will have to buy a new shaver.
