We have 4 cats, 3 dogs and 3 kids. With that combination, we have dirt and fur. LOTS of dirt and fur. We also have wood floors and I was tired of hunching over with a hose chasing furballs. This vacuum allows me to simply push the vacuum and suck up all of the dirt and fur without making my back cramp. I am VERY impressed with this vacuum. It has passed the dirt, fur and, most importantly, cat litter test. I used it on an area rug I had recently vacuumed with my Dirt Devil (which I HATE) and I was SHOCKED at what it pulled from that rug!
My Dyson quit a few months ago and I have been longing to replace it with another Dyson but I didn't want to pay Dyson prices. For $180, this vacuum is as impressive as a Dyson. This has to be THE best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. I've had so many vacuum cleaners over the years, many full sized models that often resulted in a cardio workout to vacuum my rugs (because the vacuums were so heavy and clunky). This vacuum is light weight, super flexible and easy to maneuver around objects in my home. The suction is awesome!! I turned on the vacuum (just a quiet hum) and tilted the wand to start the floor brush and VAVOOM!!! the vacuum just about self-propelled along the carpet. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat and this vacuum has picked up more pet hair that any prior vacuums (Hoover Windtunnel, Eureka Boss SmartVac, Dirt Devil bagless) on the FIRST PASS over the carpet. No more multiple passes to lift all the hair from the carpet. What I LOVE about this vacuum is it's versatility. The vacuum is completely modular. If you want to operate it as a standard upright, just connect all the pieces together, want to vacuum your stairs, just one click to drop the bottom floor beater bar off, and connect a motorized hand nozzle to the hose and the stairs are perfectly clean in no time. Snap on the crevice tool and get into those tight corners. If you happen to vacuum up a piece of string that gets wrapped around the beater bar of either the hand or floor beater bar, turn the suction ring on the handle down to minimize the suction and pull the string out by hand. If it's really stuck in there, simply snap off the cover and remove it by hand. No screwdrivers or prodding tools needed if ever clogged. The portions around the nozzles are even clear so you can easily see where something is stuck inside. It's SO easy to empty the canister, just unsnap it from the base, carry over a waste basket and release the bottom hinge and all of the waste drops easily into wastebasket. No longer have to turn the canister over, shake and create a cloud of dust and dirt around your clean house! I have to admit, I was REALLY skeptical when I opened the box and assembled the unit. I thought, this may be TOO light weight for the amount of pet hair, debris and dirt tracked into my house. But again, I was AMAZED when I turned it on and started to use it. My thoughts....'Where have you been all my life'. The engineers who designed this are genius! Couldn't be easier to use. My only CON, the electrical cord could use another 5' in length. I had a Shark Infinity for five years that finally gave up the ghost. When I went to replace it, I was dismayed to see Shark had moved away from a heavy duty vacuum and gone for what appeared to be an electric broom. The reviews and my previous experience with Shark convinced me to buy the Navigator Lift-Away despite my reservations. I couldn't be more pleased. We have carpet as well as solid surface flooring and this thing can do it all at the same time! My Infinity could do it all too but it required multiple steps. With the Navigator, you don't even have to stop vacuuming when you change surfaces...just flip the switch from carpet to bare floors and keep going! And because it's smaller, it can fit in to many nooks and crannies and around furniture. I may never use my electric broom again. I love the pivoting head. Hopefully, it's as durable as my Infinity was. I thought five years was pretty good.
