Close and comfortable shaver for 2012

I had a Panasonic electric microscreen razor that I had been using for about 7 years. It still cut fine, but the batter could only hold a charge for 1 shaving, so I figured it was time to get a new one and see what new technology has to offer. I decided to stick with Panasonic as I've been very happy with the brand's performance.

I decided to get the 3 blade shaver since this was the type of razor I had before. This ES8103S is a great razor. I really like having the display that shows how much batter power is left...no guessing involved. I have found that I can get 6-7 shave cycles on a single charge. As far as the shaving, I can't say I really see much of an improvement over my 7 year old razor. It still takes me 4-5 minutes to shave each morning, but when I'm done it leaves my face smooth and stubble free. My neck hairs are still the hardest to shave and they take the majority of time for each morning shave. Once I move to my face the razor is very fast, one pass usually gets the job done. This razor is much lighter in my hand than my old one. Probably because they use more plastic parts to save on cost, but still it is nice.

The razor cleans up easy with liquid hand soap and water and has a nice sonic cleaning mode to really power clean the heads. The swivel ability of the shaving head also is a nice improvement from my old razor.

Overall, I can't complain. The razor performs on par with my old razor and since I've been using an electric microscreen razor for many years my face is used to it and I get a very close and comfortable shave with no irritation. The battery lasts a long time, the razor has a nice contour that fits in my hand well, and the display feature with the batter power is great. I would highly recommend this razor, especially if you've been shaving with an electric razor already. Bought this on a whim and wow am I glad. Over the years I've used the Mach 3, Hydro 3, Edwin Jagger safety with a variation of razors, but have never tried an electric thinking they were just a shortcut and would shave like one. Now after using this for a week, I don't think I'll ever be going back to non-electrics.

I don't have a lot of facial hair, I'm in my mid 20s and it's still coming in, but the closest shaves I've had -- with the safety razor after doing numerous passes in various directions spending like 20 minutes over a sink with shaving cream everywhere -- can't hold a candle to this. The razors always left my skin a bit raw and the prep work felt like a choir. Even with a good shave, when I would run my hand against the grain, I could feel the stubble. The very first shave I did with this unit, it took me a couple of minutes dry and my face was smooth in any direction, I couldn't believe it. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. It's fairly easy to clean, the battery lasts about 5 shaves, and so far I haven't nicked myself or had any irritation.

The best way to shave with it is to use it every other day at most. If you let the beard grow any longer than that, this shaver will start missing hairs and require more passes. I tried a wet shave with it but unfortunately I didn't care for it, it was still better than any other razor, but the dry shave is just superb.
