Don't usually post reviews, but this is a good product

I bought my Telo today at BB for 199.99. Would've bought at Amazon, but they raised the price today back to almost 250. In any case, so far i've gone through the setup and made a couple of calls and here is my experience:

Setup was very easy. One thing you have to be a little careful of is to activate the unit through Ooma.com BEFORE plugging it into the internet. I made the mistake of doing the latter first, and the unit just flashed red for a while...made me think it was updating when it actually wasn't. Activation through ooma.com was easy. Punch in the code on the box into the site, pick a phone number in your area (I may have gotten lucky, there was one available for me), give your address and cc information and choose whether to opt out of the premier service (a reviewer here had this wrong...they're very upfront about the automatic renewal if you don't opt out). Registration took 10 minutes at the most and zero hassles.

Service seems pretty good so far. Only made a couple of calls, but voice quality was on par with any other VOIP or copper line service. From what I read online, the service really shines if your calling ooma to ooma (HD calling).

Value. A little subjective, but I think its got tremendous value. I called my local tele/internet/cable provider (Comacst) and VOIP service through them was 39.95/month. Compared to that, this unit will pay for itself in a couple of months. Against Vonage, the value is still there, just not quite as amazing. Don't know too much about MagicJack, but its a USB dongle and I just don't want to have to keep my computer on all the time to make/receive calls. Keep in mind though that Ooma is not free. Its 11.75/year and if you want to keep ooma premier, its an additional 9.99/month. I may opt back in for the premier service if only for the double line feature.Let me get the bad out of the way first. The number porting experience was atrocious. The problem boils down to too little communication with Ooma to let you know where you are in the process, what needs to be done, and the actual port date took 3 days, not one. It also doesn't show who's calling you when you're already on the line with someone else. And, the speaker in our Telo base just died, but they seem very responsive to fix/replace that, so... None, of these are show-stoppers.

With that out of the way, we really like the service. It's certainly comparable to the other service we used, but so much less costly. The voice quality has been excellent with only very infrequent issues. We have small monthly tax fee and then the one annual tax, which is also relatively small. We'll easily recoup the cost of buying the unit within the first 8 months, and that's because we signed up for the premium service. With taxes and all else, that still runs over twenty less than what we were paying our other VOIP service.

One thing that would certainly improve the service would be showing who is calling through on call-waiting. It doesn't show anything, so you don't know if it's worth interrupting the call you're on.
