Improvement over tv speakers!

Panasonic makes average products, nothing special. But if you need service under warranty, forget it! My sound bar's right channel died after 2 months (great quality, right?), so I called Panasonic who referred me to a local 3rd party repair center 20 miles away. The day after I dropped it off, the repairer called to tell me Panasonic would not authorize repair of this unit by them. I called Panasonic again, and after 30 minutes of being transferred around the world from call center to call center explaining my life history each time, Panasonic said that I should have sent the unit to Texas at my expense instead. I asked for authorization for the 3rd party to make the repair as Panasonic sent me there in the first place. They said they were not authorized and would have to "escalate" this case.

A week later: no response. The automated call center even referred me to the same repair center again!!!!!!!! After the usual 20 minute delay, I spoke to an agent who had no record of my case file and parroted the same information as last week. I demanded to speak to a supervisor: bottom line no action. They may or may not get back to me in my lifetime; I somehow doubt it. The supervisor even had the nerve to suggest it must all be my fault as I must have given them the wrong information!!!!! This is the truncated version; I have spent a total of 2 hours on various call holds, calls disconnected, web site, and various customer "help" chat lines.

This is clearly a giant bureaucracy that doesn't know what it's doing, and really, really doesn't care about their customers. The sound bar is still at the 3rd party repair center and is likely to remain there. I will never, ever buy another Panasonic product of any kind again, and suggest you avoid my disastrous experience by doing the same. As with most reviewers, this was to improve on the generally poor sound on most flat screen TVs without going "whole hog" with a full home theater system with multiple speakers and lots of wires. This sound bar did exactly that. There is finally some actual bass coming from my TV and the voices are no longer tinny.

Standard shipping came early (thanks Amazon) and set up was very easy with one op-dig cable from TV to sound bar. My TV is connected via MDHI to PS3 and Directv HD receiver. My 37" LED is in an entertainment center about 7' from viewing spot. The length of the Vizio and LG bars were about 1/2 inch too long to fit the space. The Panasonic is perfect size, sits in front of the TV without blocking it and I have it positioned slightly to the side so that it doesn't block the TV remote signal.

All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase.

One note: My LG TV only has audio out through optical digital audio so if yours is the same, be sure to order that cable too. One does not come with this sound bar. You can get a decent one on Amazon for $7-$8 bucks (I ordered the Medialink and it works great), buying one at one of the box stores will set you back about $25 plus tax.
