Works, but not very high quality Tools

I have had my Kreg Jig Master System for about a week now. I picked it up at Lowes, not here at Amazon.

A few negatives for the Kreg Jig Master System:

1. I believe the self taping edge on the screws is too long. The bladed edge extends up into the widest part of the threads. I'm no engineer but I think this causes the screw to self tap a hole that's the same diameter as the screw threads. I have only used this tool with 2x4's, so maybe it's not as noticeable when working with hardwood. It just feels like the screws won't tighten up enough.

2. The case isn't very useful. I don't see any way to organize the individual pieces inside the case. I have watched review videos of other models and the cases were more useful.

3. There are not enough projects available. I found a handful of projects on the Kreg website. The workbench project was the simplest and the one I needed the most. Completed the workbench in about three hours and it turned out great. I would like to see a lot more projects along those lines. I like the idea of keeping woodworking projects cheap by using 2x4's.

Now, a few positives for the Kreg Jig Master System:

1. The clamps are great. The Master System comes with the face clamp, and I also picked up the right angle clamp. They are both extremely useful. The right angle clamp was a little expensive, but I wouldn't be without it now that I have it.

2. The screws are great. Not much more expensive than normal screws. Despite what I said above, I really do like the screws. They are pretty fierce and will tear right into a piece of wood. You have to experiment a little bit with the torque settings on your drill or else you will destroy your wood. It seems like there is a fine line between a successful joint and a ruined joint due to over driving the screws. It's worth your time to drill the screw in on a light torque setting then hand tighten the screw.

3. This is the best part of the Kreg Jig... It's made in the USA. Most of it anyhow. The drill bit is made in China and there could could be other smaller pieces made in China. But I think the jig itself is made in the USA. I'm guessing this is why the price is high. I don't mind paying the price for a quality tool that's made in the USA. It's hard to find anything these days that is made in the USA.
