Siberian Husky has met her match!

My old Eureka vacuum developed a bad habit of breaking belts anytime I accidentally sucked up a shoe string or edge of a blanket. After blowing five belts in as many weeks, I decided it was time to retire Ole Yeller. And, after adopting Violet, a rescued Siberian Husky, I definitely had to have a reliable vacuum handy at least twice a year! Who's kidding who, on a daily basis. SO I read every review of about every pet vac I could find, starting out with the negatives. SO many of them had what I would call glaring defects that killed their appeal to me. I have about 900 square feet of living space, and it is about an even split between hardwood and carpet. The Shark was on my short list when I saw an infomercial for it on the tele. I decided to give it a shot. Glad I did!

The unit wasn't hard to assemble at all. Had it up and running in about five minutes. Only had to glance at the instructions a few times. When I first turned it on, it about ran out of my hands the roller brush was so powerful. And did it ever pull up the junk. My living room carpet is scarcely three months old, but you'd think a volcano had erupted nearby for all the grey powder the vacuum retrieved. Dog hair was no match either. The unit, although somewhat on the noisy side, is a pleasure to push around. I like the swivel capability for getting under things. The roller is a tad narrower than my old Eureka, but I actually found this an advantage for getting between chair legs where the other would not fit.

One of the best things about the unit--and something I didn't know when I bought it--is the roller can be turned on or off. Best of all, it automatically shuts off if it encounters a shoe string or edge of a blanket. Thus, the belt is protected from damage. Nice feature! I find the cord sometimes gets in the way, and the hanger up top doesn't do a good job of keeping it off the ground. Minor issue. The attachments don't all fit on the unit either. The upholstery brush is downright scary. It is suction activated, but you'd think it had a jet engine or something inside. And it really works on the soft, even cleaning dog hair off the sheet I use to cover it up with. Great on pillows, to. The dust bucket isn't really big, but I didn't come close to filling it up the first time. It's easy to empty, but if you're not familiar with how it detaches, you can dump the crud onto your floor!

The Shark has about four hepa style filters, and as far as I can tell all can be washed and reused. And of course the whole unit separates from the roller. This is very handy for doing steps with the furniture attachment.

Overall I am very impressed so far. It vacuums like a lawn mower, is plenty powerful, and conquers all manner of dog hair!
