ThinkPad X120e 05962RU Laptop Sale 2012

I needed a laptop with a very small footprint for light email and memos at my desk (I recently changed offices and my main iMac desktop can't be accessed easily). I have a MacBook Air at home that I thought about using, but issues with Mac's at my university made that less desirable and I did not want to drag it back and forth every day. Getting another MB Air was not feasible cost-wise, so I looked for a lower cost alternative that had (a) a very small footprint, (b) a good to great keyboard, (c) enough power to run my programs, and (d) a much lower price than the MacBook Air. The X120e fit all of these criteria, so I ordered one here.

I have had the ThinkPad for less than a week, but have been using it constantly and am VERY pleased so far. The price paid here was good (less would have been nice, but hey), and all the other attributes have worked out fine. I love the keyboard, the screen is very good, the processing power is more than adequate, and the Thinkpad has easily run all of the standard (Office 2010) and academic software (statistical packages, reference managers) I have tried. The battery life has been very good, and I am especially pleased by the WiFi reception, which is an issue in my building. (The ThinkPad gets reception where my Mavbook and iPad won't).

At this point, I really can't find any negatives. Having the TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but the feel of the keys more than makes up for that. Aside from that (very) minor quibble, this is a real winner and my second favorite laptop (I do have to admit the MacBook Air rates #1, but for $650 less, the ThinkPad is a clear value winner)

1. the workmanship and detail is good
2. spend the 88 $ and upgrade ram to eight gig (website is wrong )
3. make a set of recovery discs as soon as you get it
4. get a solid state drive or hybrid drive as it runs alot faster with them (500gig hybrid on amazon like 97$ now )
5. note - linux fans out there- you wont be able to dual boot this puppy as there's an issue with AMD chipset. I tried for 2 weeks and couldnt get it . Currently using ubuntu 11.04 with the old classic interface as unity sucks IMO. (my skill level at computers is novice - intermediate so if you can get it to duo boot then Guess I should wear a plastic helmet)
6. Spend an extra 35$ and get an external DVD rw drive for making the recovery discs and putting software on.
7 Comes with win 7 professional and IE 9- if you gonna use this may take some tweaking to get the bloatware out.
-if you do recommend disable win defender, firewall, update and get 3rd party software for firewall and anti virus (Kaspersky is good)
8 I actually have a think-pad x100e also and had no problem with duo boot (intel chipset too ~ not amd) ...wouldn't buy AMD chipset computer again though -too many issues
9. I like to tweak alot of things and have tied may configurations with Linux and had problems with alot of the distros except Ubuntu.
