Hardware and Chrome OS exceeded expections Great !

The price is a bit high for what is basically a dumb terminal. I guess it is not fair to compare a first-generation machine with the host of older/discount windows and linux machines out there that are being wholesaled/clearanced out on Amazon or other sites like w00t. I had hoped that the prices would drop as newer machines came out but the Chromebook concept has taken a bit longer to catch on and mature. This is similar to the Android phones that took 2 years to really catch on and take off. I bet it won't be until after christmas or even next spring until the price starts to drop on the Acer and Samsung first-gen chromebooks.

*The keyboard isn't the greatest in the world. It's not horrible but I'm used to the Lenovo Thinkpads which have keyboards that are top-notch. This isn't exactly top-notch (boo-hoo.)

*Without an internet connection (or the 3g option) this thing becomes a plastic paper-weight. It's not an all-around computer -but many people don't use their notebooks for anything but surfing anyhow. Unless you are doing "work" on a laptop why bother using it if you can't access the internet?

*Google is taking its sweet time perfecting the Chrome OS. They had a long Beta-test but the system is still only partially-baked. Things like controls for the video-camera are just plain broke or not sufficient to do much other than use web-based (read google) apps that control the camera for you. In order to take pictures of yourself or play with the video camera you have to hack into the computer to make it work. Also there is supposedly a bluetooth radio in this thing but Google hasn't programmed support for it yet. What are they waiting for? -after the project is cancelled? Get ON IT Google...

But on the whole this is a cute little notebook terminal for cloud computing. At this price it's not really all that worth it. They need to bring the price down another hundred or two to get them into everyone's home. The whole idea of "cheaper than free" has never really materialized. When it does and Google is willing to PAY you to take one of these home due to the ad-revenue they make on the thing the other big companies like Apple and Microsoft are going to be crying a river.
