Hand Vac with ENERGY STAR Battery Charger Sale 2012

I bought this to replace our old Dirt Devil recently. I looked at a lot of different options assuming there was something better out there, but I found that this was still the best solution and they'd actually improved it. The design is easy - flip open the nozzle for fine areas or use it in the standard configuration. The charger is wall mounted so the vac is grab and go. It charges quickly, has adequate suction, and is comfortable to use. It's made of plastic but it's sturdy and strong and has survived a drop or two all ready. It's a great buy and I'm glad we updated. But why did we update? The old one still worked, but we found a nest of ants inside and in trying to get rid of them we ruined it. Blech! N If people track dirt into your house or you have a car that accumulates grit and fuzz or cats that strew litter about the house or dogs that shed fur onto your couch or children who drop crumbs on the floor, you NEED this! It's powerful! It sucks (in a good way)! I've run it for as long as 15 minutes, and it doesn't slow down! One caveat, when you use the button that unlocks the crevice tool, pull it back slowly and carefully. I was a little rough with it - pushed down instead of just sliding back - and the button popped off. I was able to get it back on, but it took some ingenuity (OK, really, it took my husband) because the button is actually two pieces, and it's not readily apparent how they fit back together. Nevertheless, I use it every single day, and I'm very pleased that I bought it. I've owned dustbusters in years past, but this is my first one in awhile (treating "dustbuster" as a generic term even though it's a Black & Decker trademark). This one is pretty powerful--when you put your hand to the mouth, you can actually feel the moderate suction.

It's neat that the crevice tool and brush are built into the device for immediate deployment. But the way the brush is deployed by pushing it forward doesn't prevent it from being pushed back into its recessed location when you're scrubbing a spot you want to clean (the brush doesn't lock in place).

It is a bit loud and heavy, but I'll overlook that as the price for power.

You may not like the red color if it doesn't go with your decor, but I like that it's easy to identify from across the room whether the vac is on its charger.
