Some tradeoffs versus corded, but a great cordless saw overall

I really like this tool, it's a well-designed and well built reciprocating saw. If you definitely want a battery tool, I recommend this one without reservation. The question, of course, is if you really want a battery-powered tool. I use a plug-in Super Sawzall with my volunteer fire department (and vehicle extrication is probably amongst the toughest tasks you can throw at a Sawzall), so I can offer something of a comparison for prospective buyers considering this tool versus a plug-in. The advantages to a cordless tool are obvious, but here's the caveats to a battery-powered tool like this, which you should consider before you buy:

1) the biggest tradeoff is that this saw will run with very decent power for only about ten minutes, after which it's time to recharge or change batteries. That means the discharge rate is three times faster than the recharge rate of 30 minutes, so you'd actually need three batteries and two chargers to run this tool constantly. If you intend to use this saw primarily for quick cutting tasks or own multiple batteries, this won't be a bother to you. While it's running it is more than adequately powerful for most tasks, but if you are looking for the absolute maximum cutting power available, look elsewhere. This guy cuts great for a 3 amp saw, but it's no 12 amp plug-in.

2) the second major tradeoff with this saw compared to a plug-in Sawzall is that the handling is poor, in my opinion, due to the heavy battery positioned right below the grip. This makes the tool bulkier than a typical reciprocating saw, and puts the weight way back on the tool. I find control to be much diminished over a plug-in, which I usually grip from the front with my dominant hand. The battery is indeed very light for an 18v, but it is still quite noticeable. Handling this saw upside-down is difficult, running it without both hands firmly grasping the tool is extremely challenging.
