The PJD5123 SVGA DLP Projector Sale 2012

This projector is fantastic...and I don't even feel a need to qualify that with "for the money"! Considering it's among the lowest-priced projectors currently available, I had limited expectations; I just wanted it to work fairly well in total darkness so I could do late-night backyard movies with friends. To my surprise, it produces an excellent picture even in fairly well-lit rooms! Obviously darker is better with any projector, but I am able to get a perfectly watchable picture in a room with 2 large fluorescent lights on (as well as rooms that are well-lit by indirect sun in the middle of the afternoon). You may need to tweak the color, contrast & such to your liking, but once you do the picture is crisp, bold & just plain excellent. I must confess that I say that as a someone who isn't overly concerned with having Blu-Ray quality on everything I watch, but to a guy who mostly watches non-HD TV & DVD's there's nothing to complain about.

On a side note, I had never heard of the "rainbow effect" before I started looking at this projector, and I became very nervous about it as I waited for my unit to arrive. I'm pleased to report that I haven't seen a single rainbow onscreen (I can see some rainbows if I wave a hand through the beam, but I don't consider that a flaw). I realize that individual sensitivity to that effect varies greatly between individuals, but I for one have nothing negative to report on that issue.

If you want a bargain price on a great projector, check this one out. Ordered this because I had promised I'd find (expecting to borrow) a projector for a family reunion. When it was harder than I thought to borrow one and impossible to rent one as an individual, I started looking into buying a refurbished unit. Then I found an amazing deal (under $330 with free shipping) on the ViewSonic PJD5123. I hoped it would be "good enough". It's far more than that. I'm neither a techie nor an audio/visual expert/ afficionado. But we have absolutely LOVED having this for projecting movies on a bedsheet outside (or inside if the bugs are too bad). We've had it only a couple of months and used it 3 times so I can't speak for durability. But so far no problems at all.
