Premium educational value at a great price

I have to say that in the end it's worth it, but the process could have been simplified. My son loves it, and it is a good toy for multiple children in one household (though if yours is like mine.. that is SO not happening!)

Positives: Fun games, good books and decent prices for most of the apps (bought a number for around $8.00) My son loves it and can follow along fairly easily even though this is likely a bit old for him (he just turned 3, I would say 4 is the ideal start age.) Some of the premium games are a bit pricey, but after ordering Cars 2 it is clear to me that this ebook is worth every penny. He just reads and laughs along with it all the time now.

Negatives: First one broke day 1. I have no idea what happened, but suddenly, as he was seated in his car seat while we were driving to Chuck E Cheese, it turned up with a cracked screen; the kind you might see on an ipad or laptop when it's dropped. This worries me because any kids toy should have some amount of tolerance for a child's rough behavior. And really, how rough was he being while strapped into a 5 point harness? We really liked the reviews so we replaced it the next day and so far so good, but its only been a week so we shall see. Also the downloading process was TEDIOUS. Perhaps this is my computer, but our usual download speed is quite good. Perhaps it's just navigating a new system/website and getting to know the ins and outs. Just know that it could take up to an HOUR to get the first games that COME WITH the device onto it. This would have been nice to know as it was a birthday gift for our son and nothing is worse than opening a present you can't play with right away.

I love Leapfrog and am willing to give this some time. The concept is great and its gotten our son off of my $600 iPad so that makes it ALL worth while! And in the end, he loves it. So I guess my advice is open the box after your child goes to bed, grab a glass of wine and just acknowledge that good things come to those that wait.
