Low price for a lesser shaver 2012

Charged up and used the first time this morning - distinct improvement over the previous Series 7 model Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver and 9595 Braun 9595 Series 7 Electric Shaver with several modifications recommended by users incorporated into the design:

1) Redesigned head. No, you do NOT need the old blue strip in the middle - the new Series 7 head is better than the previous model. Slightly larger diameter holes with irregular shapes, redesigned center cutting strip with rounded guides (contrary to other reviews, cutting surface of the center strip is exactly the same in the new head as the old - 30mm long); it actually cuts better and more comfortably (and cooler for some reason) than the old head design. Sort of a moot point, because you can use either head design with either shaver series, but nice to see an improved head design come out with this new shaver.

2) The plastic strip in the back, below the shaver head on the body of the shaver, is now smooth and without lettering. The reason this is important is because in the OLD design, a rather meaningless "CAUTION: Use only with Braun power unit blah, blah" is stamped into the case, through the silver paint covering the black plastic body. That's important because over a short period of time, with daily exposure to the alcohol cleaning fluid, the silver paint begins to peel off around the lettering because of the break in the surface, exposing the black plastic below. Just cosmetic, other than flakes of paint falling into the cleaning unit, but annoying on a high-priced shaver, and it's pretty well guaranteed because it happened to all three of my previous Braun units, generally after a couple of months' use. The new shaver has the lettering printed on the soft rubber backing, and presumably the unbroken surface of the top strip will not peel. Still appears to be painted black plastic (in this case with a graphite-colored paint), so the jury is still out on its durability.

3) Quieter operation. I would estimate about 20-30% quieter than the older model. Virtually the same on the cleaning unit as the old one, but the actual "noisy" part of the cleaning cycle in the cleaner is less than 5 minutes (much shorter than Norelco's or Panasonic's auto cleaner units); the rest is convection drying and charging, which is completely silent (also unlike Norelco and Panasonic, which use a fan for drying).
