Leappad explorer is great with some drawbacks 2012

Soooooooo, I Bought The Leap Pad For My Sons 4th Birthday. Of Course Like Many of Us, I Have Read Reviews Over and Over Again and Contemplated About The Price, Etc. This Is Review Is For The Realistic Parent...

1. GRAPHICS - Let Me Just Say My Son Is 4 and Like Most Kids HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT GRAPHICS OR HD! So If You Are One of Those Parents Who Want A 1080 Resolution For A Child's Toy, GOOD LUCK. The Clarity of The Product Is Good. The Pics Are Clear and That's All That Matters. The Animation Is No Different Than A Kid Would See On Nick Jr. 2D Basic Stuff.

2. DURABILITY - I Have A Very Rough Son. He Throws His Toys, He Steps On Them On Accident, Etc. This Is A Pretty Durable Product. I Have Read That Parents Would Rather Buy There Kids An IPAD. Sorry, But This Single Mother Doesn't Have $400 To Waste. I Barely Had The $100 For This Product. But I Can Guarantee That If My Son Steps On This Leap Pad, It Will Be Just Fine. I Can't Guarantee That w/ An IPAD! LOL.

3. PRICING - Yeah The Pad and The Apps Are A Little Steep. But $20-25 Isn't To Bad If You Ration It Out. No One Said You Have To Buy 10 Games Right Away!

4. Everything Else. He Has Been Playing w/ It For About An Hour Now and He Has Already Learned How To Take Pictures, Has Went Thru The Alphabet and Paint Tools. So Obviously He Is Enjoying The Chance To Explore His Toy. It Was Fast and Easy For Me To Do The Registration and Download The Games. I Can't Believe People Complain About Things Like That. 20 Minutes Out of Your Life Shouldn't Be That Bad. And You Don't Have To Sit In Front Of Your Computer As It Downloads The Apps. Can We Say MULTITASK?

Overall, I Am Happy w/ This Product. I'm Happy He Is Enjoying Learning How To Write His Letters. His Happiness Is All That Matters...Well we've had the Leappad for about 45 days and I am very glad I purchased the replacement plan. Despite the big scratches and even the nicks that have appeared, it does still work. However the port on the leappad has something wrong with it and I can no longer plug it into the computer for updates, to upload points for tokens to spend of "puppy supplies" or "micromods". Does this affect play? Yeas, it really does. There is still no gel case in stores as promised. The carrier made it in stores only two weeks ago. My new advice would be to not buy this until those products are readily avaliable unless you have a VERY cautious child concerning toys.
