Leap Frog consistently produces fun and educational products and I couldn't be more pleased with this one! As the mom of four girls we have had several Leap Frog toys over the last twelve years. My three oldest daughters are teens and my youngest just turned four. She is easily able to navigate this toy and has 11 of the games. The game is sturdy and she likes the video/camera. She loves watching her videos. We bought the Explorer last year when she was 3 and she favors this toy when traveling (so did I, until we bought the Leap Pad). My daughter is reading and has played with our iPods, i Pad and i Phones so maybe this helped her with her ease of use. She begs to play with this all of the time. Both Pet Pal games and Princess and the Frog are favorites. Mr. Doodlebug is most difficult as she has to have a steady hand to draw). The only downfalls to this game are: one the battery life sucks~~I strongly recommend rechargeable batteries and hope LF will come out with a charging system similar to the LF Explorer and two: I hate the constant reminders to hook the game up to the computer to buy more tokens, etc. for some of the games. I would not hesitate to purchase this toy as it will definitely grow with your child. I love that you can set up the toy based on your child's age/capabilities. I have even caught my 15 and 16 year olds playing with it a time or two~lol. My son was very excited to get his own "iphone". The processor is a bit slow loading games, but my son has learned to be patient. He is enjoying the paint app, petpal, Jedi reading, and digging for dinos games so far, and doesn't seem to be tiring of the games. It seems pretty durable, and I like the tether for the stylus, and that it has a headphone jack so I don't have to hear it. The downloadable apps from leapfrog are a bit expensive ($5-$15). I was interested in tracking his progress online, but it turned out to be more of an advertisement for more games. Overall, it's a pretty good product. Our kids got these as gifts and they love them (4 and 5yrs). The interface is very kid friendly. They love the stylus and how it controls all the features. The best game to start with is the Mr. Pencil Saves Doodleberg, as it teaches how to use the stylus and also basic things the LeapPad can do. I would definatley pick this over an iPad for young kids due to simply misdirection with the iPads. They tend to take kids out of apps to get them to buy more things (ie in app purchases). With the LeapPad only the parents can buy additional material unless your child knows how to use a computer. It will be much harder to ruin this than and iPad as well.
