I'll never spend $400+ on a vacuum but think I'll look at some in the $100 range

As you can see in the description, this is a small vacuum. I knew that going in but was still surprised at how small and toylike this thing is. I only have one 5x8' area rug (and a bulldog who sheds a lot) and thought this would be perfect. I was wrong. It worked OK the first time out but the filter is so small it gets clogged immediately and the loss of suction is extreme. To maintain close to the original suction, you would have to clean the filter prior to every use and even then would only get a couple good minutes before it was clogged and lost suction again. Also the canister is very small and must be emptied before getting too full or else, again, you lose all suction. Also, every time after the first that I have vacuumed, the hose has become clogged (usually in the bend near the bottom). Forget about vacuuming up hard surfaces. Like others have stated, there is a strong wind blowing out the front of this thing and it blows everything all over the place before you could ever roll over it to suck it up.

I also thought this might be good for my mom because of its size and weight. She's getting on in age and complains that her vacuum is to heavy. Her vacuum is much larger and heavier than this one but still much easier to push. This thing is very hard to push (for a vacuum). Using this on a shag carpet is like pushing a push broom across a thick lawn.

I am not one who thinks that inexpensive can't be good, but this vacuum is not just inexpensive, it is also cheap.
I'll never spend $400+ on a vacuum but think I'll look at some in the $100 range and would advise others to do the same. I'll donate this one so it's not a total waste but it just didn't work for me.We have one bedroom apartment with carpet throughout except in the kitchen. Initially we used it once a month and later I started using once a week. It worked really good in the beginning. I liked how light weight it is. However as time going on and the usage of this is increasing once a week, it did not take it anymore. I used to get a "burnt" smell when I vacuum and I was unable to find the location from where it came. Finally it stopped working. When I use it now, the motor just runs, without sucking the dust and pumping the air and dust outside. I initially thought it might be because something might have clogged under the brush and so I cleaned it and tried again. But of no use... It was hardly a year old, now the rubber is burnt, brush is not working anymore... Rubber and Filters can be replaced for this vacuum cleaner but not the actual brush which sucks the dust. So I had to throw it out and look for another one.

I am not sure how it worked for so many people... it did not work out for me...
