I reported this to Bose and the rep I spoke with chuckled

This product is designed primarily to provide improved audio dialogue from a flat panel TV. It is not meant for music systems - it does not have the dynamic range for that purpose.

I initially found that it allowed me to hear TV dialogue more clearly and at lower volume on my bedroom TV. Set-up could not be easier, connect the fiber optic cable to the tV, plug in the solo, turn off the TV's speakers and thats about it.

I was able to program the Solo's remote functions into my Dish remote after some fiddling around

The solo will turn itself off after 30 minutes if it stops receiving an audio signal, this is a nice feature since I can use the sleep time on my TV and not waste power with the Solo remaining on all night.

The one short coming is this - when you turn the TV back on - the Solo remains off, so it necessary to keep the Solo remote handy for the sole purpose of turning on the unit. This was a very silly oversight. Since the Solo has a circuit that senses the loss of an audio signal thus turning the unit off, that same circuit could be used to sense the return of a signal and turn the unit back on.

I reported this to Bose and the rep I spoke with chuckled and agreed that in deed this was an over-sight and submitted a report. Hopefully engineering will do an upgrade to the software and add the power up feature, if they do, then there is no need to keep the Solo remote handy.

The unit has a service port so software updates can be made.

Now that I have lived with for about 3 weeks and the honeymoon stage is over - I notice that the unit produces an annoying base thumping sound even on some talk shows. I spoke with a Bose engineer and was told that is was something they could not do anything about because the unit has no equalization feature. When this occurs - it is not only annoying but it drowns out the dialogue.

This product in my opinion is a dud for Bose and this from someone who has & loves their home theater system, noise canceling head phones and a wave radio which by the way costs less than the Solo and is a radio, dual alarm clock and dynamic sound.

Just waiting for UPS to pick it up next week. Canceled the return for now.

UPDATED - October 18 Canceled the return for now.

I decided to talk to Bose one more time & am trying something new. The Solo & TV are in a open back credenza positioned in a corner of the room. The rep suggested that I move the Solo out of the credenza and place on the top of the cabinet. He said it was like putting a speaker in a box inside another box and aiming the base ports (which face out the back) at the corner of the wall, which caused the base to effectively be multiplied and reflected back again and again.
