Pandigital has a new model out with more capabilities

I bought this item thinking that at worst, I would have a Barnes and Nobel e-reader. I wan't even sure why I "needed" a tablet anyway. But I do collect gadgets, and I was curious. Since I had some credits with Amazon, I went ahead and purchased.

Actually, I have been able to do some real good things with it without much work. If you take my advice here, you'll be up and running without any trouble at all.

I was able to add the Amazon android market and Kindle app. You may need to load an earlier version of Kindle than what is offered here at Amazon--it is available at free app sites.)The one thing I would suggest is that you ABSOLUTELY have to add a 4 gig SD chip. This cost me $5.00. This provides adequate memory. Otherwise, the Amazon android store won't download applications.

Once you have the Amazon android market working, download the opera mini browser. It is fast, and works great with your wifi.

There are many games (I like Jewel) which work on this version of android. (2.0) The Android market will tell you if an app won't work with Android 2.0. There are PLENTY that will, many of them free. I also have blackjack, solitare, and drag racing.

WITH THE EXTRA MEMORY...you WIIL be able to browse the net with good speed, although like the ipad, you won't get flash video. Mp3s will download and play nicely. Many android apps will work great. And you will have great functionality from both the B&N and Kindle apps on the same color screen.

One hint is to bookmark frequently visited pages on the browser to reduce the need to use the android keyboard. Makes things go much faster.

You can get an app which permits input by handwriting, like on the old palm PDA's. Works fine, and is much faster.

Build is sturdy and substantial. Yes, I've dropped it...twice...without a problem.

I've had the thing for about a week and don't see why I'd want a more expensive tablet. If I want flash video, I'll use a netbook or better. On the other hand, this is great at Mickie D' s or Starbucks for checking e-mail, for reading during down time, for loading and playing back podcasts in the car (with input into the sound system or for checking recipes in the kitchen, all without risking an expensive computer or contending with a bulky keyboard.

Great for viewing pictures of the grandkids, too.

Yes, Pandigital has a new model out with more capabilities, but unless you plan on using them, this may fill the bill for you. At this price, it is very hard to beat.
