I purchased an InSinkerator less than 12 months

Disclaimer: I am not a Lowe's, Home Depot, or InSinkErator employee. I say that because the reviews so far on the InSinkErator Compact Evolution seem a little too positive, especially given the fact that all of them seem to be comparing a dead or dying old unit for a brand new one, which doesn't say much. That being said, my circumstance is replacing an old Kenmore 3/4 hp unit that had only a 2 year warranty. In operation and design, the Insinkerator is obviously quieter and looks more modern/refined than the Kenmore it replaces. I like how they package in a nice rubber drain plug and stainless steel stopper.

Installation-wise brought up a few concerns. First, not sure why no one mentioned this, but you need to get the power cord separately. Perhaps this is an industry standard for this type of electrical appliance, but this is the first time in my life I had to get a power cord separately for any electrical appliance. The cost was $13, and you have to tie in the black and white wires yourself using wire nuts. Not sure if I'm being unreasonable here expecting an electrical appliance to come with its own power cord that you don't have to tie in with wire nuts.

Speaking of which, the power-cord package, also made by Insinkerator, comes with the 2 wire nuts you need. Nice. However, they were too small for the gauge used in the disposer (they did not tighten), so I had to get bigger ones which tightened nicely. On top of that, they could have spent a few cents and colored the white wire on the power cord. Instead, both power wires are black, but one is more ribbed than the other (this represents the white). Could they have spent a few more pennies to color a small section of the cord white for clarity's sake?

Installation went well and was familiar, since there were no changes or improvements over the old Kenmore mount - same ol' snap ring and screw plates, etc. The bottom part of the unit scratches and peels your skin easily as I tried to position the unit with the pipes and mount at the same time, so I can't help thinking the bottom could have been smoother, while the black paint around the pipe mounts were peeling off easily as the plastic pipes were rubbing against it.

I purchased an InSinkerator less than 12 months ago and had it installed. Recently the casing began leaking and damaged my cabinet under the sink. When I called to gain assistance, imagine my shock to be speaking with the Philippines. Not only did they have difficulty understanding what I was saying, they were not able to answer any of my basic questions about repair response. The individual on the phone could only tell me who to call locally for repair. They only had one option and they had no after hours access.

I called the local representative for repair Monday evening. The repairman never called back. I had to place another call to the repairman. He indicated it would be 3-4 days to get the system in stock, then 1- 2 days before he would be able to schedule the repair. I asked to go ahead and schedule an appointment for 4 days out to prevent the additional 1-2 day delay and he refused, stating if I wanted to argue with him about any of the delay I could find someone else to do it. Sadly, because he is the only authorized representative to fix the system, any disagreement with him means he can refuse and I'm out of luck. I would also add, he advised is the only person who can determine if the system is damaged and should be replaced and if he determines it is not, he has to be paid $85.00. To say this company has a significant lack of customer service is an understatement. I wouldn't buy this product again, to be defective so quickly and have such difficulty gaining assistance with my warranty was a disappointment.
