If your belly protrudes over the waistband of your pants
Many women turn to creams and potions and procedures to solve their beauty and weight issues. And there are plenty of products on the market that will accommodate anyone with an open pocketbook, willing to try something new. Unfortunately, most of them don't work - or at least they don't solve any problems in the long run.
What does work? It's something that every woman can do and it costs absolutely nothing. It also helps your overall health, in addition to making you look better - and even 10 pounds slimmer. The magic potion? Proper posture.
Stand normally and take a good look in the mirror, paying attention to your silhouette, in particular. You are probably experiencing any or all of the problems below because your neck and shoulders aren't probably aligned with your spine. Here's four common problems that make you look heavier than you really are and the simple ways you can fix them.
Drooping Bosom
Odds are this problem isn't so much your breasts as your back. When the muscles of your upper back aren't strong enough to hold your shoulders in place, your posture suffers and your chest tends to cave inward, bringing your breasts down toward your belly button.
The solution? Try a simple workout that targets your latissimus dorsi, such as dumbbell rows and reverse flies - then stand up straight!
Lack of a Waist
Once again, your shoulders are the culprit. If they round forward into a kyphotic position, your ribs compress and make it appear as if you have no waist.
Work on keeping your shoulders back in their proper position, aligned over your torso. Rear lateral raises with dumbbells or overhead presses with a weight bar are excellent exercises to strengthen the shoulders and upper back.
Muffin Top
If your belly protrudes over the waistband of your pants, it could be that your lower abs are weak and your pelvis is tilting forward, making an exaggerated ess curve out of your spine (and likely causing pain).
Core exercises, such as you might do during a Pilates workout, will do great things for strengthening your abs. And when standing, make a conscious effort to bring your shoulders back and your hips forward.
Droopy Body, Tired Look
Your posture says a lot about you. If you stand or sit in a slouched, shoulders forward position, you will look older, tired and weightier than you really are.
Working to maintain constant neutral anatomy (proper posture) will do amazing things to your overall appearance and how others perceive you. While it's always good to exercise and strengthen the muscles of your shoulders, upper back and abdomen, you can also use fitness undergarments to provide the necessary support to promote proper posture effortlessly. Over time, your muscles actually train themselves to stay in neutral anatomy, even when you are not wearing a posture bodysuit or posture shirt.
