Here are three foods that are high in unsaturated fat
Healthy weight loss is more than merely eating a lower amount of calories than you burn. To lose belly fat the healthy way, one must pay attention to the types of foods eaten as well. One issue in healthy eating is the type and amount of fat that should be in the diet. Before suggesting three healthy foods, let's find out what kind of fat we should eat, and what kind we should not eat.
That can be classified into main categories: saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fat is the type of fat that should be avoided as much as possible, because consuming it is associated with a much higher risk of heart disease. Saturated that is found in animal and dairy products.
Unsaturated fat is a much healthier fat to consume and is known as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. This type of fat is found in vegetables and nuts. Unsaturated fats can lower the risk of heart disease by lowering our triglycerides, the fat found in our blood. Newer studies suggest that people who lose body fat by eating foods higher in unsaturated fat have a lower risk of heart disease than those who rarely strive for a very low-fat diet.
On a personal note, I lost 20 pounds and kept it off for several years but later found I was very unhealthy. My triglycerides were so high that the doctor told me I could have a heart attack in five years. This highlights the importance of dieting in the healthiest way possible, and not solely focusing on the scale.
Here are three foods that are high in unsaturated fat:
Salmon. Cardiologists will call this the super food of meat, because it is a rich source of unsaturated fat. Got some Cajun spices on this delicious fish twice a week and feel like you are eating steak.
Avocado. If you like Mexican food or you like to put stuff on your salads, then this one is the way to go.
Nuts. Get out the whole-wheat toast and fat-free butter, make yourself a peanut butter sandwich. If you are a nut lover, then break out the pistachios, cashews, walnuts, and pecans as well.
Remember, however, that the Daily Reference Intakes (DRI's) allow for 20 to 35% of our diets to be fat. Most of us get close to 35%. It is wise to eat lower amounts of fats and choose the Foods high in unsaturated fat and low in saturated fat.
One does not necessarily need to eat vegan or vegetarian, but should lower the amount of meat in the diet to lose weight the healthy way. Choosing the right foods can help you to lose belly fat as much as choosing the right amount.
