Temperature Gun Infrared Thermometer Review And Compare

This is an excellent thermometer for the price, and it's accurate to within a few degrees. Ice water registered properly, and boiling water was off by a little over two degrees (I'm at sea level, and the water was filtered, so I'm assuming it was pretty close to 212ºF in reality). I wouldn't use this if exact precision is required, but if a few degrees of error is acceptable, then so is this.

The initial temperature reading is displayed within a second or so, but be prepared for some fluctuation, even when pointing at a large object that is presumably at a stable and uniform temperature. I use mine to check the temperature of water for my coffee, to get approximate temperatures while cooking, to check for areas that need insulation in my home, and so on. For such tasks, it is well worth the cost.

Some nits to pick, though: mine arrived in red, not yellow (no big deal), but the buttons for ºC/ºF, light, and laser are all inside a pull-out flap in the handle (the one you open to replace the batteries), not on the back as in the displayed images. Since you generally set these things once and forget about them (except maybe the display light), it's not a major issue, but it is slightly annoying.

Still, for this cost, the lack of near-perfect accuracy and a few moved buttons are non-issues. Buy it. Worst case, you've got a pretend phaser that shines a red dot for your cat to chase. It does what it says it does, and does it more than well enough to justify the current cost. item delivered in exellent condition, with battery included..

the first temperature reading was from my own ear cannal and it was 36,7.. I was happy, but after playing with device for some time
noticed that temp reading rised from initial meaning.. I checked again my ear canal and it was 40.2.. after I measured my body temperature with regular medical thermometer.. :-
after idling for about an hour, measured temperature was in normal range again..
it seems that when IR lens get warmer in your hands,or cooler -after cooling down in fridge, this distorts normal measurement..
