Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer Compare And Review

This is a good one. Because it has a fairly narrow focus area it gets precise readings without having to be right on top of whatever it is. I got it to check RV tire temps during rest stops as a way of checking for correct inflation. It is very handy, comfortable to use and holds the last reading if you wish or constantly updates as you move it. Easy to read. Simple.Good battery life. Reasonably priced. Now that I have it it has replaced oven thermometers,refrigerator/freezer thermometers,patio thermometer, candy thermometer. It has monitored the performance of the A/C unit measured at the ducts,verified the need for attic insulation (ceiling 10f warmer than room. Calibrated thermostat, checked hot water output temps in home and RV.It can check wheel bearings, brakes and differential for overheating on the RV.Did you ever wonder how hot the highway pavement gets in Summer? Checked temperature probe in microwave and verified that one of our cats does run slightly warmer than the other. Both cats will chase the laser spot all over the place.
This is one of the things that you should get even if you don't need it and you do need it.

Cooking is a hobby of mine. Most cooks, be they amateur or pro, know that temperature control often spells success or failure in a dish. In the past, I have used an Infra-Scan TR-101 non-contact Infrared thermometer. It was light, compact and accurate for my needs. Its big drawback was that it was powered with four button batteries that had to be replaced with some frequency.

As a replacement tool I choose the Kintrex IRT0421. It is powered with two AAA batteries, which are more commonly found and less expensive to purchase. I like the gun handle design and feel. It is slightly larger to store in a kitchen drawer. The trigger button is under the handle curve. The °C/°F degree control button is on top below the readout screen. I often find myself initially pushing the top button when I want to take a measurement. Possibly the °C/°F degree control button is too convenient. One big plus is that I no longer consider the non-contact Infrared thermometer as a uni-task cooking device. It has also spilled over to my other hobby, home maintenance/improvement. I am pleased with this purchase.

Simple to use, just point the red dot and shoot. Instant temperature of foods when frying, boiling or nuking. Temps at various locations in the refridgerator and freezer for food safety. Temperatures inside and out around windows, doors, outlets, to find energy losses. Find hot and cool spots in the home to balance your heating. Instant readings outside on the patio, in the sun or shade, in the car or engine compartment. Get readings from across the room, but remember that the temperature reading is not at the exact lazer dot, but in a circle around it which increases in diameter by 1 inch for each foot away, ie: 5" at 5 ft.
