Good accuracy, decent range HDE Temperature Gun Review

I have been having an air conditioner problem (NOT a good thing during a string
of 100+ days), and just picked up this little gadget. These used to cost a
fortune..now it costs less than a little laser pointer used to go for...$17.

I tested it against three different thermometers and it was always within 1 degree of their reading. It does become less accurate the further away you are from the target...but still useful for showing relative difference. I also had the issue reported by another reviewer when first turning it on...it took about 5 minutes to get itself all ready to go. The pointer did not want to come on..or go off, etc. But after that initial period it starts and works great. Love this gadget.

It uses the laser just as a visual aid to let you know where you are pointing
the thing....but the pointer still works to drive cats and some dogs crazy chasing the
pointer.

I have discovered that I am way "hotter" than my wife(or I guess you could say
she is still way "cooler" than me), learned the room that I thought was too hot
really is only too hot in the one area where I sit, that my car hood is 160
degrees....all sorts of totally worthless information, but I swear it will prove
useful at some future date. I purchased four of these units for use in an industrial coatings laboratory. The items have a good mid-range and, despite extremely moderate cost, they actually come with the battery for the unit. I can't speak to the instructions as I found everything intutitive for the units. Pull the trigger, take a reading, let go, it stays displayed. If you want to use the laser to aim, click the appropriate button and, when the trigger is engaged, the laser site will light up. The unit powers off after a minute or so of displaying results.

Using a digital thermometer and comparing readings, I was able to obtain the same values to the nearest integer. At low or high temperatures, surface readings vs. internal temperatures differed slightly due to heterogeneity of the material. Even so, results were only a degree or two high at 15 °F. This is well within the requirements for our testing and even a higher end unit would be effected by the fluctuation of surface temperatures.
