I do my own home improvements, from kitchen remodels to bathrooms, trim work, plumbing, electrical, you name it. I bought this laser level after years of using standard levels (which work great, don't get me wrong). This time, I thought I'd splurge and pick up this level using my Amazon gift certificates earned from my Visa card. The plan was to use it on my girlfriend's kitchen remodel for the upper and lower cabinets. I bought a standard camera tripod to attach it to, which worked great. Make sure you get one that has a height adjustment screw for fine height setting. I set it up and used it to find both the high spot on the floor and low spot on the ceiling (if you hang cabinets, you know why that's important). I made marks on the wall along the laser line for the top and bottom of the lower and upper cabinets. Then I checked it with my standard 5' level and it was absolutely perfect. Then, as we were hanging the upper cabinets, I used the vertical setting to shine the laser into the cabinet at the stud locations. Man, this worked out great! It's not easy finding studs inside of a cabinet, but using a stud finder between the upper and lower cabinets, then lining up the vertical line on the mark did the trick. Never had a miss. I highly recommend this little unit, well worth the price for the many uses it can provide. Can't wait to use it on my next project - fire place tile and mantle layout. Nice work Dewalt. Great Laser. I am a union carpenter in Philadelphia and have been using this laser almost everyday since i purchased it off amazon. Just finished large metal stud framing job. Laser cut hours off of my total time. I did not snap one line in over 3 weeks. Just make two marks on the ground, line the laser up to connect the lines and you have perfectly plumb and square lines for you bottom and top track. Also a must if you do alot of soffit work. Very strong magnet holds strong even to 25 gauge metal. In seconds you can have a perfectly level line all the way around a 50X50 room.
I have just received my Dewalt DW087K and have been playing with it to get used to it. Pretty impressive and heavy duty. Couldn't wait to receive the DW0737 Tripod that was recommended with it, to get to work. When I received the tripod, I unboxed it and tried to attached the Laser Calkline to it! I could not figure it out, so pulled out the documentation - no help; as far as I can tell these two items are not designed to work together. I guess I will have to call the Dewalt Service center to find out if I can buy an adapter so that they can work together.
Finally got through to the Dewalt Customer Service and was told that they DO NOT sell an adapter to make the two work together and they do not have a specific tripod to work with the DW087K and recommends a standard camera tripod be used with it.
SO much for the recommended items on Amazon!! I now have a tripod that I have no use for!
