If you want perfume or aroma, use a room spray, or slap some cologne

Okay, one buyer says it doesn't smell ENOUGH of sandalwood, another says it's too strong. I guess quality control at the maker is haphazard, because my jar has a nice mild fragrance (the fragrance is "released" better with hot water), which is JUST FINE by me. I'm not shaving with a brush and razor for the olfactory euphoria. I want a clean, comfortable shave. A great shaving cream (or gel, or soap for that matter) serves dual purposes: keep the beard wet, moisturizing, and provide a nice gliding surface for your razor. Taylor of Old Bond's sandalwood shaving cream does just fine. Unlike a cheap variant, only a pea-sized portion is needed in my shaving mug for a rich, creamy lather. (Don't waste yours by dipping your brush right in the cream; you'll get too much, and you'll dilute your jar by introducing moisture.) Add hot water and a full badger brush, and this product does quite well. Shaving cream, check. Tweezerman badger brush, check. Single edge razor?, I like my Mach 3 razor. This was the only difference I chose, from the "proper way of shaving". This took me a few times to get use to, using Edge & Gillette all my adult life, spray it into hand and apply to face, it would foam and shave. Not that convienient with this cream. For me, get the water nice and hot, rinse brush until brush was moist. You need to "whip" the cream why the brush is moist and hot. The very first time, I don't think I did it right, so the shave was ehhh for me. I was thinking going back to old faithful Gillette/edge. But I told myself to try it a few more times to decide. I ask you to try it a few times before thinking abandonment. I am happy to say, I chose to stick with it. With practice, I was able to get the "whipping" technique to work and lather up the brush with just the right amount of shaving cream. I apply the shaving cream with the brush (maybe I am doing it wrong) with an up and down movement. The shaving cream isn't thick and foamy; it's a thin even layer on your face. And after the shave, my face is smooth and "slippery" the glycerin definitely helps glide the blades on your face. Now I am nearing the end of the jar, so I visited Amazon yet again. The sandalwood scent is not over powering, but I would like to try another scent maybe. Disappointed that the sandalwood is the only that qualifies for free shipping. I was eyeing the avocado one, or maybe just go back to the sandalwood. I don't see myself going back to Gillette/edge. It definitely is not a quick process, but I think the results will be worth the extra time. This is my experience with it; hope yours is just as good.I'm fairly new a the whole DE shaving thing, so when I got started I decided to not ony try several brands of blades, but sample several creams as well. At this point I've tried two: The Proraso (in the squeeze tube) and the Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream (in a jar). Both are much nicer than anything at the drug store. Both have their pros and cons. The Proraso gives a nice, tingling sensation, and a fresh smell, but is runnier. That said, getting the proportions right for a lather are dead simple - an almond-sized dab in my shaving mug, wet the brush, and lather. I marginally prefer the Taylor of Old, etc. for it's full, thick foam and the good lubrication, but it is a bit drier. It's also a bit harder to judge how much water to add for lathering as I prefer to pick up some cream on my brush and use that in my shaving mug with some water added. As far as scents - the proraso wins out on this round. While I LIKE the sandalwood scent with its overtones of incense, etc., it is much stronger, and I can see where people would dislike it. I look forward to trying the eton college and other scents in the Taylor line.
