If you are going "old school" with your shaving, this is the way to do it. First

sent a note directly to the manufacturer. They sent me a new to of cream. Far better than the most recent batch, but not as good as the original. Still great, just not as much. The ingredients listed have changed and there is a mention of the removal of some ingredient that some group believes is probably radioactive, mutant producing, and some other things. Bottom line is that the cream is no longer as firm or long lasting. Still good stuff, will buy more, but it is a shame when great products slip a notch. Dec 2011-This is an update to my prior review. I eagerly opened my yearly Christmas gift of this shaving cream, only to find that the formula has changed. No longer does it have the great smell, and the firmness of the cream has been reduced to something like frosting. Have written complaints to the manufacturer, but in the meantime, I have become disappointed in this product. I am saddened by the downhill slide of this once great product. Earlier review is below. If you are going "old school" with your shaving, this is the way to do it. First, my wife loves the smell it leaves on me, and I have to agree. I am not one for colognes, and this has a great, masculine smell (do not agree with the claims of it being too "perfumey" as some review have stated). As I have a beard, I do not shave every day, only a few times weekly, and this small tub of cream lasted from one Christmas to the next. You do not need to go so far as a the straight edge, or single edge razor as I have, as this works well with any razor type I have found. What you do want to do, however, is to get a good badger hair shaving brush and drying stand for it. The brush is an absolute must. Got my second bowl of this cream this Christmas, and will continue with it.Although I've used Taylor products for several years, I wanted to be cheap about the next purchase and got the Sandalwood b/c it qualified for Prime shipping! I was a little worried because others commented on the overpowering scent, but I took my chances. I've used it for over a week now and I can say that the scent is really strong when you first apply the cream. The scent is actually quite pleasing, so it doesn't bother me at all. However, if you are worried about it when you shave, the scent diminishes quickly after shaving and it is barely noticeable after a 1/2 hour or so (i actually wish it would stay a little longer!). Other than the scent, it lives up to the Taylor tradition of a smooth shave. You use only a tiny amount per shave, so the premium you pay up front is paid back by the fact that it lasts 4-6 months. If you are a first-timer for real shaving creams, trust all of us when we say, "you'll use this once and never go back to drug store brands again"! You may experiment with others like Proraso, Art of Shaving, Truefitt and Hill, etc. but you won't go back to Gillette!This is a wonderful shave cream. The sandalwood scent is really great and lasts quite long, well into the day. Inferior products are like shaving with wet watery soap where this cream creates a nice rich lather. Just so you know, when you open this up you're not looking at a bowl of hard soap, this is actually a tub of very creamy lotion. All you need to do is just dip the tip of your badger hair brush in the lotion (I like to wet my brush first with very hot water) and then lather it up in your other hand if you wish and then apply it to your face. A bit old fashioned routine maybe, but still great and pleasing way to shave.
