The Dirt Devil Dynamite Bagless Upright surpassed expectations. In the past I've owned expensive vacuums such as the Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner; however, none of them performed as well or lasted as long as this one. Although this vacuum works well with low-level carpets, I wouldn't recommend it for thick carpets and hardwood floors. Hardwood floors make the vacuum prone to scattering debris; thick carpets choke the vacuum. Perhaps these limitations are due to a lack of carpet height adjustments. In addition, the vacuum emits an insufferable, high-pitched noise. To compensate, I wear earmuffs. FYI: The rotating brush collects most of the dirt (i.e., weak suction). I purchased this vacuum several months ago, and it's still in working condition. The belt, filter, and attachments are good. I follow three rules to ensure its continued use: don't use carpet powder, avoid large objects such as paperclips, and clean the filter after each use. Overall, I rate this vacuum a 10 for portability and maneuverability. Its ability to contour around corners isn't as flashy as its pricey competitors, but it gets the job done. Cleaning the filter vexes me the most. To clean it, I shake the container inside an enclosed garbage bag; afterward, I use brush-like utensils to clean the crevices. The suction was just alright. After vacuuming the area carpets, emptying the container and removing the cat hair and dust from the paper filter [YUCK!!], I took the hose off to do vacuum dusting and all this cat fur and dust flew into the air and there was fur and dust clinging to the vacuum cleaner where the hose sat. The debris came from the open hole that the hose sat on. Again, this was after I cleaned out the container and filter.The unit was sitting on a clean, hardwood floor,not atop of debris. When the hose is removed for above floor cleaning, there is no longer any suction in the base.
