Econo-Heat-400W-electric-panel-heater

I live about 40 miles north of Philadelphia and during the winter temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees are considered average in my area. I have a heat pump in my house (constructed 2004) and I purchased this heater to help keep my electric consumption down.

This heater is able to sustain the temperature in my living room and does in-fact help keep my heat pump off, longer. My living room, which has an open floor plan to my kitchen and dining room, is probably 12 x 12, stays at a comfortable 68-70 with this heater on high and my heat pump off. I also reverse my ceiling fan (on low) and this seems to help distribute the heat off the unit a little better. I have been checking my electricity usage online, and since the heater, I have noticed that I am able to shave about 10-20 kW a day using the Lasko heater.

The cord sometimes gets warm when used on hot (4+ hours) but it's nothing I'd write home about. Also as a side note, I plugged this heater into my "Kill-a-Watt" to monitor its electricity usage and on low it consumes about 875 to 930 Watts/hr and about 1475 to 1575 Watts/hour on high. The temperature of the air coming out off the grill plate (literally) is right around 185 degrees Fahrenheit.

In the master bedroom, with the door shut the unit is able to actually warm up the space rather than just keeping up, and this is impressive at only 1500 watts versus running a 8-10kW/hr heat pump.

The temperature sensor on the unit is "ok" at best and I didn't expect anything else, so I'm completely satisfied with it. When you think about it, the senor is on top of the unit and when used on it's high setting tends to warm itself up a little and typically reports temperatures that are 2-5 degrees warmer than the air, this is completely normal for a 45 dollar heater. A great way to combat this, if you have a ceiling fan, is to reverse it while the heather is on. The automatic temperature control does do a descent job, when using it on the auto setting in my master bedroom; the system does actually reach its temperature and turn off.
