We bought this as an upgrade to replace our George Foreman and are very disappointed. This morning we made bacon and pancakes. I could not get the unit to stay hot. It took us forever to make pancakes and the bacon was a big mess. Our unit tilts away from the drip spot which means that the grease does not drain out unless you physically lift the unit. Not something that you really want to do with hot bacon grease. On the griddle side we set at the setting indicated in the directions, but was not hot enough and kept on cooling off. We also tried steak. Once again the unit did not drain. Grease also sputtered all over the counter. Also, the heat was very inconsistent. It seems like the heat on our unit gets hot and cold. I am not sure if our unit is defective or if it is the design of the product. I may return and try again to see if a new one works better. I like our old George Foreman better. We never had an issue with grease or with keeping a consistent temperature. After reading all of the positive reviews, I was really hoping to love this one.We have not owned this unit very long but so far it is working wonderfully. It is very straight forward to use and very easy to pop the plates out and clean. We haven't even felt the need to put them in the dish washer, just a quick wipe or scrub depending on what was cooked and they are clean.This is our 3rd Cuisinart Griddler. We live in a condo, so the Griddler is our only option for preparing grilled food at home. We literally wore out Griddler # 2 (Griddler #1 was returned with a defective part and replaced, no questions asked). We love this new and improved design. Only 2 plates - instead of 4 - which counts in a small kitchen. The grease trap is a real improvement over the little cups that were sometimes forgotten and sometimes turned over! We decided to cook less with the cover closed, which seems to dry food out quickly, and we really like the result. The "sear" setting works great too. We use our new Griddler for fish to Cuban Sandwiches and beyond.
