The drill holds up nicely to common household tasks, though it presented moderate difficulty hole-cutting through a steel and solid wood door, which granted had a knot right where the deadbolt was going, and is not a routine household job. The batteries give an acceptable amount of performance, and the entire kit for $100 was an excellent deal for what it is: an inexpensive power drill one can use for everyday household tasks and relatively minor projects. If you think you're going to be able to take this onto a jobsite, you're dreaming. It's nowhere near as tough or powerful as a professional-grade tool, and chances are it's going to break sooner and be easier to replace than to repair as it was likely engineered to be. Many of the parts are plastic and I doubt will stand up to many years of usage, as my grandfather's old plug-in power drill still does after some 50 years. And that's fine. You get what you pay for, and I go exactly what I wanted. For the price it's a good buy, and if by chance I fall into a time-warp back to a few weeks ago, I'd purchase it again.We're in the process of moving and I looked at my scrap woodpile and said "I'm NOT moving all this stuff." So I decided to add a bit of value and build heavy duty shelving from every scrap that I could find, mostly 2x4s, 2x3s and lots of flat stock including 1/2" plywood, 5/8" OSB, etc. Not too long after I started the project, my consumer quality 12v B&D driver dies a smelly death. I limped along with an air drill and said to heck with that; this guy arrived in two days with Amazon Prime which gave me time to cut the sheet goods. The shelves are 8'x2'x10' high, 6 shelves and all tied into the ceiling rafters. This driver did a huge number of 2.5" wood screws on one battery pack. VERY easy to control with high torque at low speeds. I'm really glad I passed up buying the Bosch. Once again, thanks for the very detailed reviews. I've never gone wrong with anything rated 4 stars and above and stayed away from anything 2 stars and below.I've been looking for a really good drill with a decent price for a very long time. I'm the kind of guy that likes to get the best value for his dollar. I believe that with this product, I did. First, let's be realistic. This is just a drill driver, and its a lighter weight, slightly compact model, so don't expect to this to be as applicable in as many projects as pricier full-sized DeWalt models. It is hands down a wonderful tool for basic household projects. It still has an adjustable clutch, forward/reverse, keyless chuck, two batteries, and 18 volts of glorious long-lasting power to play with when applied properly, setting screws, drilling holes, or even buffing the car. The price for this product is nothing short than excellent, especially if you found it on sale for $99 like myself and many others here have. I went to the local L0wes store to purchase mine, and Amazon would have been my fallback had they ran out. The batteries themselves cost $99, and since I needed a drill I thought what the heck, early birthday present to myself. When I cracked open the package and first picked up the drill, I knew this was something I was going to like. Very much. And upon giving it a go with a battery in, I was quite impressed at the difference over my old drill. This drill feels and operates in my hand more naturally than other drills I've used. My stepdad does carpentry as a hobby and on the side for friends, and his cordless brand of choice is DeWalt. I viewed DeWalt as overpriced and used to think it was silly of him to spend so much money when you can get another brand with the same features for less than half the price, but now I realize why he buys DeWalt. They make a product that is worth the money, and when you get it on sale, you are getting probably one of the best values on the market. I now consider myself a lifetime DeWalt fan and user. If anything changes with this product, I will be sure to revisit and update my review. I've always wanted a Dewalt drill and now that I have one I'm glad I bought it. I've owned MANY cordless drills from Craftsman to Black and Decker and most in between. The secret is in the battery. This drill comes with two. I've fallen for the cheapo Harbor Freight $20 drills but they last about a year. The drill doesn't die but the battery does. It simply doesn't hold a charge. I can shelf my Dewalt for 6 months and it holds a charge like new. Not that you'd want to but the battery quality makes ANY cordless tool. Well balanced and just feels right. To me well worth the $$. Even though I already own a drill, the Hitachi, I saw this at Home Depot for $99 and thought, wow, for that price, yeah I'm going to buy it! I'm glad I did. It IS worth $99. It comes with a molded plastic case, TWO batteries,(which cost around $60 A PIECE! Bonus!) a charger, and a standard screwdriver bit. If you're already familiar with DeWalt tools, you know that they are heavy duty, this one being no different. I guess they're selling them for 99 bucks because DeWalt is coming out with a new 20-Volt drill, so I would buy one of these while you can, especially for this great price! If you're not familiar with DeWalt drills, they are pretty much the standard drill of choice in the industrial enviroment, capable of doing pretty much anything you need a heavy duty drill to do. This particular drill is perfectly capable. It doesn't have the hammer drill setting like some other DeWalt's. The clutch on it is VERY precise. The batteries DO last a very long time, and it's nice to have the two provided. The drill IS pretty heavy, but well balanced. This drill really is worth buying for the $99 bucks they have them now at Lowes or Home Depot. I would say I would pay up to $135 for this drill.I bought this in December and have been using it a lot in a basement remodeling project. It has fantastic torque and good battery life. I've been amazed at how many 3/4" holes I can bore through studs and joists before replacing the battery. This replaced an older Dewalt 9.8V drill, which gave many years of excellent service till the batteries started losing capacity. Besides the extra power, the improvement I like most in this drill is the one-handed ratcheting keyless chuck. Having used a residential grade drill black friday 2013

DeWALT is one of the premier "contractor grade" names in power tools. Having used a residential grade drill for the past 7 or so years, please allow me to say that this tool was a quantum leap forward. Some things to consider: 1. You get TWO batteries INCLUDED. This means that once you drain one you can flip to the other batter and keep drilling. You won't lose valuable time on the job waiting for your battery to recharge. If you are conscientious then you will never be without drilling power. 2. The keyless chuck is VERY heavy duty and maintains a very tight grip on the drill bit. This means that you won't bury your bit in the wood only to have the chuck let go and leave your bit behind. You can tighten up the chuck again and back it out slowly if it ever happens to you with another drill but who has time for that? 3. The drill's housing is heavy duty and will withstand countless drops and keep on ticking. I bought this as a Christmas present for myself (my wife and I usually do this every year). The batteries on my old Ryobi drill were drained and this was only $20 more than replacing the batteries. First of all, for a guy this drill is light. It's lighter than my Ryobi that it replaced. Second, this drill is powerful. I haven't run into anything yet that this drill couldn't handle although I have yet to try and drill into concrete or something like that. Based on what I have done with it I am not worried. Third and most important some reviewers have said that the chuck was coming loose on them. That's because they aren't using it correctly. You can loosen and tighten this chuck with one hand. To properly tighten it you have to tighten it until you hear it click, then go one or two more clicks. Once it does that it will not come loose. All in all I am VERY satisfied with this drill, even more because of the price. DeWalt automatically considers black friday 2013

I ordered the Dewalt 18 volt drill/driver kit to drive screws to repair a deck and to do drive screws and drill holes in other areas of my house and yard. The screw driver was quite powerfull driving screws into deckking and I had to set the torque controls on the chuck lower to keep from driving the screw heads on 3 inch screws 1/4-1/2 inch below the wood surface. After driving screws all afternoon, I was quite happy with the product. A few weeks later I had to drill holes through sheet metal, and noticed the drill bit wobbling badly, making it difficult to start the hole. After removing and reinserting the drill bit a few times, I realized that the problem was a bent shaft to the chuck. I didnt notice it using the short phillips head driver attachment, but it definitely made a difference in performance with a longer drill bit. I really liked the drill/driver and wanted a replacement rather than a return/refund. I was past the 30 day no questions return period anyway, but to their ccredit, Amazon still allowed me an exchange. I recieved the replacemtn 2 days later and the new drill appears to function correctly and has a straight chuck shaft. This tool is powerful, has a short body to allow access to smaller spaces, and seems to have a long battery life (I havent completely dishcarge a battery yet). I received this drill through Amazon as a wedding gift in August, 2012. The chuck broke (one of the vises in the chuck seized up) in October, 2013. When I dropped it off for repair at an authorized service center they told me DeWalt automatically considers the chuck a wear item and I had to pay for its repair. So I got stuck with a $55 repair bill on a $99 drill after 14 months of light use. This failure to cover the chuck isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual or the item description. supposedly much higher fidelity for this black friday 2013

I've gone through a pretty surprising journey in the last couple of weeks that started with me completely dismissing the sound quality of the Bose Soundlink Mobile Speaker II -- and ended with me shelling out $349 for the premium/leather edition and starting a Spotify Premium subscription. I thought I'd share the journey in case there are others out there looking for similar audio solutions. It all started when a friend showed his Bose SoundDock Portable that he had won. This is a relatively small dock for your iPhone, but it produced impressively rich sound quality. I already have a very sophisticated home cinema system in our living room (>$5,000 range) that I've owned for the last ten years, so I consider myself spoiled with very high fidelity audio at home -- but only in the living room, not in the bedroom on the second floor. I was compelled by the basic idea of having a secondary sound system that could play Bluetooth audio wirelessly because that could become the perfect solution for our bedroom and potentially my home office. Inspired by what I heard at my friend's place, I started to look for an equivalent sound system that wasn't tied to Apple's proprietary standards but used Bluetooth instead. The two Bluetooth speakers that kept coming up everywhere in online reviews described as the "best" portable speakers were the Bose Soundlink II and the Jawbone BIG Jambox. I read countless of reviews and I really didn't like that both of these systems seemed to be optimized for size and weight, rather than sound quality. These speakers are actually quite expensive when you consider the limited fidelity they output, but what you're paying for is the portability factor -- including built-in battery, microscopic footprint, and rugged durability. Well, I wasn't really looking for that at all -- I wouldn't mind a slightly larger system that wasn't as portable, but was still "carryable" so I could move it across different rooms in our house.
