And it turned out to be a huge disappointment. I had purchased this as a backup player. I have a big stereo system/receiver/etc. already setup where I normally listen to albums. This was just to have an "extra" for listening in the living room.

Setup was quick and easy. Tossed a record on and...nothing. Well, not really nothing. But you coundn't hear the noise unless you had your ear against the player. Then, like an idiot, I realize that there is a switch on the back for using internal vs external speakers. Whew! I get that in the correct position and the sound was terrible. Distorted. I actually turned off one of my favorite albums of all time (Pearl Jam - Ten) because the noise was awful. OK, so it's not a high end machine. I expected "cheap" speakers, but not this bad. I hooked the player into the stereo system (and yes, switched over to use the external speakers) and nothing. The output doesn't seem to work.

My guess for the distortion is that this player is not built for heavyweight vinyl. While most of my albums are regular grade from the 60's, 70's & 80's, I do have 10-20 reissues/newer albums that are heavier. I don't want to limit my listening choices based on a player that cannot handle the weight. I like the way this turn table looks, how compact it is compared to some of my old stereo components, and how intuitive it was to record music to the flash drive. If it wasn't so intuitive, I probably would have returned it because I thought the directions really lacked the descriptive quality that I expect of something like this . The sound quality is so/so in my opinion. When I compared the finished MP3 product to a digital version I downloaded off of Itunes, I thought the ITunes version was far superior. The small speakers work but, this is not a high end system and for the money, you should not expect it to be.
