Great product, only minor "turn offs." Laptop

The new ASUS A53E laptop certainly offers good value in regard featured chipset, minimum 4 GB memory and large 650GB hard drive as compared to similar configuration laptops form other manufacturers - often at much higher prices.

The unit weighs more than I expected, and the 15.6" screen is not as ideal - for me, when compared to 'more square' 14" screen on my older IBM Thinkpad.

A nice addition is the ASUS utilities software tool that remind me about, and can upgrade various hardware utility programs like audio, video or network drivers that 'should' make using Microsoft Windows 7 easier and less troublesome than normal. Nice touch. The brushed aluminum case provided a quality feel and appearance.

A surprise inclusion was the one year accident/breakage warranty as part of purchase price.I would not recommend this computer, as I had to send it in for repairs this first week I had it. None of the function keys were working and the curser was "floating" all over the page. The contol pad was supper sensitive so that if you touched it all sorts of things would happen on the screen. There internet support had very poor directions and email responses were not clearly explained. When I finally called their service department the person I talked to was helpful and friendly but they were also frustrated because what should have been able to be fixed over the phone could not and I had to send it back to Asus Service Department. When I got it back not everything was fixed but have chosen to live with it as I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back again.

This is my 1st laptop, and I am thrilled with it.I'm not a "techi", but my son is, and he helped me pick this one. This is a competent little package, and I have found set up and back up a breeze. Picture is SHARP! Speed is right now, and all I had to do was turn it on and put my DSL code in. I use it for surfing, email and pictures, and I love it! Memory card from my camera plugs in to reader, and I'm good to go. The keyboard feels solid, and I love the layout with the number keys to the right. got it last week, and have used it every day for this or that. Picture doesn't do the casing justice. It has an ingrained design that looks great. My daughter has an HP notebook, and is definitly jealous.The Asus warranty is unequalled. Read up on that. Don't be afraid of this one!
