The F8Z492-P Bluetooth Music Receiver Sale 2012

I just got this Blue Tooth device today. I hooked it up and as the previous reviews stated, the range is marginal at best.
I got it for my garage. I work in there a lot and like to play music. I also need to be able to know my phone rings so that requires my phone to be in my pocket so I can feel the vibration when it rings.
My music source is my iPhone 4S playing through a Bose Companion II computer speaker system.

I use either the iPod function or using WiFi I can play streaming radio stations as desired. Right now I just plug the iPhone into the Bose unit using Apples jack for feeding video into a TV and I have wonderful sound! As mentioned I need to free up my iPhone to be in my pocket so ordered this Belkin unit.

As it stands today, moving 15 feet from the unit the sound gets patchy and fades away. Stand closer and put my hand against my pocket between the iPhone and the Belkin unit and the sound gets patchy and fades.

So today I rate it a 2 star. The sound is great, the range is bad. Tomorrow I'm going to do the remove the weight trick and see what happens. I realize that if it isn't better, I can't return it!!
I'll post back tomorrow and report about any improvement in reception.

OK, I modified the unit as outlined in a previous review, I opened it and removed the metal weight inside. It was well glued together but by carefully using a small screw driver and a small putty knife it opened! I pulled out the circuit board and then the metal weight. I folded up electrical tape to the thickness of the metal plate and put that in and then to hold the board at the proper height, I then reinstalled the circuit board. I used super glue to reassemble the two halves back together.

WOW!!!!!!!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I am now 3 rooms away from the unit, still connected. I went outside and walked 70 feet down the driveway.... STILL CONNECTED!! I may have been modest giving it four stars but it's still new, it may yet show problems but as it is now.... I LOVE IT!!!! This transmitter has terrible range. I even removed the metal piece as described in another review and that didn't help. If I move my phone more than 6 feet away (even with line of sight to the Belkin receiver) the music starts to skip and break up. If I go into the next room with a wall in between the music completely cuts off.

Also, it seems to constantly "unpair" itself so that I can no longer connect the phone to it. I have to delete the device and re-pair it to get a connection.

This is very disappointing since the device is small, AC powered and does exactly what I need. Belkin needs to work on their quality.
