There's not much I can add to what has already been said, but I would like to confirm:

The auto-off feature is great. It is not louder than any comparable units. It doesn't dance around the floor like the last one I owned. I bought it mainly to use in the garage (110v), but I like having the 12v option. Plastic, but pretty solid feeling; I expect it to last awhile. The two-year warranty is a plus.

Yes, the 110v power cable is short, but it doesn't matter because unless it was really long, you'd still need a 25' extension to get around a car anyway. So it might as well be short for storage.

Pressure gauge dial could have been expanded for more accurate settings, but it works well enough. It took me one tweak to get the first tire spot on, and then it was locked in for the other three.

I think the hose/wire storage compartment could have been designed a little better. The 110v cord & air hose connect inside, which makes packing everything (including the 12v cord) a little tight. Note: The air hose coiled tighter with the valve lever closed, but the instructions say "Always leave lever up when not in use". Also, the on/off switch is right behind the handle, so I kept accidentally turning it on when moving it around the car.

This unit isn't meant for pumping up low pressure, high volume things like air mattresses.

Overall, I like it and would buy it again. I even got one for my Dad. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the storage compartment, dial, and switch design, but all are relatively minor.

*** UPDATE 12/8/09 ***
After using it for nearly 2 years, I increase my rating to 4.5 stars. Functionally it's great, and I'd only subtract a partial star for some minor design flaws (I mainly wish the gauge dial had more detail). Both units are still going strong, and definitely would buy them again.After much online research, the Black & Decker ASI300 (in 2008, when I bought it) was the only brand-name inflator at a reasonable price that was around. I've been satisfied with its performance for the 1 year+ that I've had it, though I do have a few issues.

Pros:
-The unit is compact and I like how the air hose tucks into the unit itself.
-The inflator is a bit noisy but not deafening by any means.
-The biggest advantage of this item, though, is the reasonable price and relatively reliable brand name behind it.

Cons:
-The a/c cord, as many people have written, is far too short. Buying an extension cord isn't a big deal but it is all but a necessity for anyone that doesn't have an outlet within a couple feet of each car tire.
-The inflator dial is not digital and does not allow for exacting PSI settings. You turn the dial and hope it's in the range of whatever PSI number you're looking for.
-The inflator dial is extremely small and hard to see and read. And the dial range is so small that you can't tell what PSI you've set: is it 33 or 35 or 37? Good luck trying to get any level of accuracy.
-The d/c cord, which plugs into your car's lighter outlet, is sufficient for small cars (I have a Toyota Prius), but is probably too short for anything larger than a mid-size sedan. In this case, I don't think there's any easy fix.

This automatic air pump had three jobs to make me happy

This unit was not as loud as I expected. The previous inflator I was using was obnoxiously loud at a frequency that was very unpleasant.

The other inflator had severe vibration issues and due to its shape and lack of stability would shake until it landed on its side. This unit is stable and because of the rubber knobs on the bottom remains rather still.

I like the feature that lets you set the desired PSI and then automatically shuts off when it reaches that pressure. It makes the slowness much more tolerable when at home because you can simply do other tasks while it's working.

After filling up my tires using similar settings for the front and for the back, I measured the pressure of the tires and found that they were accurate to within 1 PSI.

I timed the first tire I inflated at a little over 4.5 minutes to go from 20 PSI to 30 (YMMV depending on what you're inflating). My truck is a full size '86 Chevy C-10 and there is adequate length to hook the unit up to my vehicles power and easily inflate the tires.

For all of the things I like about this unit, there is one thing that causes me to give it a 3 out of 5 rating. The valve adaptor lever looks as though it might not last very long. That is the very reason I'm buying a new inflator because the valve adaptor lever broke on the previous (non-B&D) unit I was using.

On the large picture on the box, the lever looks as though it is one solid plastic piece but it isn't. The way it's actually designed, it should be made out of metal. I just don't see this poorly designed plastic lever holding up for the long haul. For $50 I expect something solid that I know will last.

I looked through the reviews on here and the oldest one is from November of last year. I can only imagine that, given time, several people on here will end up with broken valve adaptor levers. I'm going to return this item for something with more solid construction.

This automatic air pump had three jobs to make me happy: First, it had to inflate my wife's toyota's tires (32 psi). This tool makes it flawless,fast and easy. Also, it needed to inflate our mountain bike tires (50 psi). This device makes it outrageously easy and fast. Finally, it needed to fill the tires to both my vans (80 psi). This apparatus does the trick nicely. For all applications I need it for, the auto turn off makes the chore mindless and accurate. While it is fast for car and bicycle tires, it is a little more time consuming for my van tires which are big. Hence, the auto turn off comes to the rescue again. I just let it do its thing while I do my own thing. Just so you get an idea; bikes that are about 10-20 lbs low it takes about a minute per tire; cars that are 5-10 pounds low, I figure it takes about 2-3 minutes per tire and for van tires that are about 10-20 lbs too low it takes easily 5 minutes per tire and often more than that. Still, it does it, and this little dance I do with the air station sure beats going to the gas station, hoping the pump with the faulty built in gauge is working and taped up properly and sweating to beat the all too short timer that all too often cuts me off either a few pounds before I am finished or a whole tire too soon...phooey!
This air station is a little loud, so make sure you don't use it too late at night or too early in the morning. It hums along and soon one gets used to the noise.

Some here have complained that it's too hard to pack the wires into the unit

The power switch's design makes it too easy to flip into AC or DC when you don't intend to. I don't know, however, if this can actually cause harm to the unit. FWIW, I accidentally switched into DC while turning it off on AC, and it seemingly did nothing and worked just fine afterward.

As for the noise, since "loud" means different things to different people, I went ahead and measured it. From a distance of about two feet, using C-weighting, I got about 92 dB; I got about 96 dB at three or four inches. At those levels, if you had to listen to it all day in your workplace, OSHA would require hearing protection, but for just a few minutes while you inflate something, it's not a problem. Put in terms of what may be more familiar to many, it's equivalent to a moderately loud segment of an action movie in a theater.

Finally, a note about wire storage. Some here have complained that it's too hard to pack the wires into the unit. I was able to do so for the first time, on the first try, without any frustration and without having to redo the wires. Basically, a quick, loose loop or two suffices for the AC cord and air line, but the space is small enough that you really need to neatly wrap (but not tie) the DC cord. If you are the sort that does that anyway, as I am, you'll be quite happy with the storage compartment. If you're the sort that would prefer to simply shove the wires in, you'll have a harder time.I bought this model to replace my older B&D air station. This one is much quieter than the old one and it has the nice automatic "shut off" feature. However the hose connector is plastic (seems flimsy) compared to the metal connector on the older model. My beef with this model is that to see the actual tire pressure on the gauge, the unit must be shut off. Then if the pressure is not adequate, then it is to be turned on again. But doing this too fast and too often will blow the internal fuse. I've done it. Now I have to tear apart the unit to replace the fuse on the internal pc board. What a pain! BE CAREFUL!!

.....Six months later... My "3-star" rating has been reduces to "1-star"

I've used the inflator off and on since November when the fuse blew the first time. However last night, I was inflating my car tires. The first 3 tires went fine. When I turned on the unit to inflate the 4th tire, the unit immediately turned off. I knew that the internal fuse had blown. I disassembled the unit and replaced the blown fuse with a fuse of same ratings. Upon power up, the new fuse blew. I suspected that there were other problems with the control circuitry. To confirm this, I soldered a thin piece of copper wire across the blown fuse. Upon power up, the copper wire vaporized with flash and loud pop. This confirmed a bigger problem. Being an electrical engineer who has designed consumer products to UL standards for over 20 years, I suspect that this inflator is designed with very little safety margin. When the fuse cannot protect the other circuitry, it is not adequate. I advise not buying this product. Most of the B&D products are made in China, and probably are built without any UL standard being enforced. I believe that the units are designed to meet the standards, but the manufacture of them is in question, in my mind. The manufacture of these products is supposed to undergo UL scrutiny every so often. However we all know how the US Customs office is often deficient in its review of such imported products.

To get the best out of this machine - get a good external mechanical pressure

I am pleased with this inflator so far. (I hedge a bit, given the reviews stating that the device has failed for other users. But that's what the warranty is for.) It is easy to use, effective, and convenient with its storage compartment for power cords and inflation hose. I especially like the automatic cutoff feature; I can turn it on and let it do its thing while I'm doing something else. I run my automobile tires at higher pressures than most (60 PSI), and it had no trouble with those. It takes a couple of minutes, of course, but that's to be expected -- this is not a mechanic's air compressor, and I don't expect that level of performance. I haven't tried them on my higher pressure (90 PSI) bicycle tires yet.

Negatives that other reviewers have mentioned and my comments:
* Gauge readability: Yes, it's a little hard to discern small PSI increments on the gauge. But I never rely totally on any pump's or inflator's built-in gauge for my tires; I always verify with a good quality tire pressure gauge. The inflator's gauge and cut-off get me in the ballpark, and then I fine-tune using the tire pressure gauge. They are within 1 or 2 PSI of each other.
* AC power cord length: Not an issue. I likely would have to use an extension cord anyway. And the short power cord adds a bit to its portability -- no fiddling with it or trying to store a long (and useless while traveling) power cord with the device as it sits in my trunk.
* Noise: No worse than any other inflator I've used.
* Small storage compartment for cords and hose: Not too much of a problem, though it might take a little practice to get them coiled up the right way. It's handy to have the compartment.
* Short inflation hose. No shorter than other inflators in this price range I've used. Plenty long enough to reach a valve stem at top dead center with the device on the ground next to the tire.
* Plastic connector that *might* break. I'll judge it if or when it actually breaks, not before.
* Having to cut the power switch off and then on again to run it after an automatic cutoff: Gimme a break, how big a deal is that??I have used it for about a week now. It is much better than the one I got from Walmart. The major issue I see is that the pressure gauge on this machine is rather small and it will be hard for you differentiate between 27psi versus 29psi without using an external gauge. My Toyota Camry calls for 29psi and my other car asks for 34psi front and 36psi rear. It was impossible for me to read 34 vs 36 psi on this machine's gauge.

Tip: To get the best out of this machine - get a good external mechanical pressure gauge with a relief valve (you can get a decent one for under $10 at Walmart). Then set the dial on this machine to be slightly over (2-3 psi more) the pressure required (I set it to 30psi when filling my Camry which needs 29 psi). Fill the tires with air using the machine. Then use the external gauge to measure the pressure and release the air using its relief valve until the pressure is at the desired reading. Works like a charm for me.

Other than this, the machine is quite nice and with a 2 year warranty it is a good buy. Amazon's price was amongst the lowest I could find.

The Proxxon is far superior in almost every way

I bought this Dremel. I used it. Then, I promptly returned it. I instead went with Proxxon 38481 IB/E Professional Rotary Tool.

The Proxxon is far superior in almost every way. If you look at the spec sheets, you might think the Dremel would have the advantage. After all, the Dremel boasts a 175 watt motor and continuous variable speeds from 5,000-35,000 RPM whereas the Proxxon only has a 100 Watt motor and continuous variable speeds from 5,000-20,000 RPM.

However, the Dremel is loud and whiny. [Noise is the manifestation of vibration.] The Proxxon is quiet and smooth, with virtually no vibration. Further, the Proxxon delivers consistent torque. The Dremel buckles a bit under heavy loads. It isn't consistent.

The Proxxon uses triple reinforced steel collets to minimize play. The Dremel uses a keyless chuck. [If you prefer a keyless chuck, Proxxon offers an attachment for roughly $10.]

The Proxxon is ergonomically designed and there is no question how you are supposed to hold it. Further, the instruction manual shows the correct position. The Dremel is awkward and hard to hold.

The Proxxon is made of diecast alumnium, fiberglass and rubber and is manufactured in Germany. It weighs over a pound. I don't know where Dremel is made, but it feels cheap.

As for accessories... Dremel comes with far more accessories, but Dremel accessories are not overly expensive. Further, the majority of accessories are cheap and unnecessary. Buy the right accessory for the right job and you'll be fine. No real need for 85 different kinds of sanding wheels [just my opinion]

I couldn't imagine anyone trying both and actually preferring Dremel. I don't see how that is possible.I bought the Dremel 400 xpr with the box full of accesories (I think everything you could buy for one). I used it infrequently for the first couple of years because it kept heating up on me. Then I decided to use it through the high temperature. Predictably, it burned out. I sent it back to Dremel with an explaination of what went wrong and they sent me a brand new, never used, Dremel 4000 completely free. The new 4000 feels and acts much more like a tool than a toy and has worked straight through a bunch of difficult tasks that I'd never try with the old one. It did heat up a bit, but, nothing like the 400 and it's still working fine a few months of heavy use into it.

I would definately recommend Dremel as a good company to do business with. As their return letter said, they're "...committed to customer satisfaction." and they mean it. Also, the Dremel 4000 with all the attachments from my old 400 is unstoppable. It's clearly more of a work tool than the 400 was. The 400 seemed a bit more like a toy.

This Surebonder 9600 stapler is a keeper, my electric stapler kept getting

Alright, first and foremost i generally do not buy off brand tools such as the surebonder 9600 here but needed a stapler that shoots T50 staples to pull some heavy fabric tight for a job. Although listed as a narrow crown stapler (which is a much narrower staple than the T50 and not as suited for fabric) this gun actually is made to shoot the T50 arrow staples that most heavy duty hand staplers you see use...and is the only pneumatic gun Ive seen that does so. anywho! i hooked this little gun up and tested it out on some mdf and plywood and it worked perfectly with no jams or no bent staples no matter how dense the material it would seat the staple perfectly. with any of the hand staplers ive tried, all have only seated the staple halfway into hard material like mdf... and it really wears on your hands trying to keep alot of force on top of it even to get it to do that. so for $30 this has turned out to be the perfect little T50 stapler and you can find the Arrow T50 staples in all lengths at any hardware store.Bought this to complete R-15 insulation with garage walls of 2X4 const, then applied a top layer of black 6 mil plastic to cover same prior to the wall board application...for a two-car garage. Already had my own air compressor with 3/8 inch tubbing. Did consider buying an electric stapler...I am really glad I bought this product, used T50 arrow 1/2 inch staples with approx. 110 psi...WOW it was so easy and fast with this Surebonder 9600! Yes I would recommend you get this product and would suggest the T50 arrow staples that you can probably purchase at your local hardware store. If you get the on-line staples from Amazon...be sure they state for use in the 9600 model as the Surebonder 9610 staples will not work in the Surebonder 9600...to large in size!! Note: This product does come with some oil that you place into the air connect (4-6 drops)of the Surebonder 9600 and I had no jams, unless you hit a steel plate and you can clear jam with some long-nose needle plyer with very little technical effort...what more can I say?I bought Surebonder 9600 Pneumatic Fine Wire Staple Gun for a small project in my unfinished basement. The bare wall studs are insulated and part of the basement walls are five foot poured wall concrete. I decided to buy some 6 mil plastic sheeting to cover the walls and control some humidity: a 10' X 100' roll. I bought a box of Surebonder 44402 #4 3/8-Inch Length Heavy Duty Staples, 5000 Count on Amazon. The stapler worked flawlessly. I am very pleased. It's light and comfortable. I quickly became fast at using it. I purchased another yellow slinky-type hose to go with the one I already use from the store that rhymes with hallmart. It cost ten bucks and another five for the connectors. I was concerned with staple depth and shot some test staples into a two by four scrap. The stapler default setting was perfect for me. Check yours as I did just to make sure. The directions for this stapler were not too great and did not have info on what direction to turn the dial. If it didn't have the right depth, I would have had to experiment with it. This Surebonder 9600 stapler is a keeper, my electric stapler kept getting jammed and broke and when looking on line for a replacement it seemed like all the reviews were pretty bad. I already had an air compressor so I decided to try this one and its a winner. so far I used it for styrofoam roof baffles and insulation and it works great. Only got jammed once going through thousands of staples and I found that Stanley staples work better and are better quality than Arrow. Buying another one today for a back up because I like it so much and its even cheaper then when I bought it the first time.
